Mobile Phones Are Getting Banned

More and more schools are adopting policies against the use of mobile phones during school hours. Students will be required to keep their phones locked between the first school bell and the last. While there are a mixed range of positions people are taking, the Australian Education Minister James Merlino has made up his mind.

A ban on mobile phone use in Victorian public schools aimed at curbing distraction and cyberbullying has divided opinion among teachers and students.
Education Minister James Merlino said the ban, which would be in place during school hours in state primary and secondary schools, would start in the first term of 2020.
The policy may not be universally popular, Mr Merlino said, but it was the "right thing to do".

There is some evidence that suggests banning mobile phones during school hours enables better socializing.

A number of private schools have already banned the use of phones and McKinnon Secondary School, a government school in Melbourne's bayside has enforced a ban since last year.
Principal Pitsa Binnion believes students at the school have become more entrenched in their studies as a result. "Our students are more focused learners in the classroom without this distraction," she said

This might improve communication in some peoples work places as well. However, I think it is perfectly reasonable to ban the phones. Honestly they are hardly phones any more they are mostly text and app platforms.
