Percentage of Women Who Smoked Cigarette During Pregnancy

Someone should tell West Virginians that smoking during pregnancy is bad for the health of the baby. According to the CDC, a staggering 25% of pregnant women in West Virginia smoked cigarette!

Why do West Virginians have the highest pregnant smokers? Perhaps it's because it has the most adult smokers of all the states.

Redditor academiaadvice graphed the data over the map of the United States.

MrsO. was pretty much a chain smoker who quit when she was carrying our first born. He was a bit small and premature. She didn't stop with our other three who were normal size and on time. Go figure. I quit in 1990 and she did in 1991. Good move.

I knew a 18 year old girl at my workplace who smoked during the entire pregnancy. She would say "the doctor said if i stop now its worse". At the time I remember believing this. As of writing this comment, I just did a search of several doctor websites. They all say it's not true that quitting during pregnancy is bad. Just goes to show - be careful to verify what people say.
