Rick was never very good at keeping track of his poor grandson Morty, so when he re-emerged from the portal with a different annoying child on his back he really didn't think much of it- until that child started kicking ass. The kid was kind of annoying to be around, and the way he walked on those noodly limbs of his made Rick sick. But he was less annoying than that other kid who used to hang around and he wasn't a blood relative, so Rick took a shine to young Finn and immediately started coming up with ways to exploit him for profit and interplanetary fame.
