I will always think of Conan the Destroyer when I think of Grace Jones, because her performance in that film instantly made her one of my favorite famous faces in the 1980s.
Grace is equal parts ferocity and grace, and that savage beauty from Jamaica showed the world that you can be an actress, supermodel and singer and still be yourself in every way:
In the ‘70s and ‘80s we all had our fun, and now and then we went really too far. But, ultimately, it required a certain amount of clear thinking, a lot of hard work and good make-up to be accepted as a freak.—Grace Jones
On June 12th, 1978, the LaFarfelle Disco in New York threw Grace a fabulous and funky 30th birthday party that not only encapsulated Grace's personality- it pretty much defined the Disco era.
There were Leather Boys, Drag Queens and Disco Divas in attendance, as well as Elton John, Divine and Andy Warhol.
We're only able to get a small glimpse of what went on that night from these photos, but knowing Grace the party probably went on for the next few days!
You just know Stefon was at this party.
