Relics of Technology

I have one of these! Actually, I have two. And I think they may still be in the basement somewhere.

Award-winning photographer Jim Golden presents a photo series entitled Relics of Technology. He was inspired to do it when he found a brick cell phone in a thrift store.

These photos are a reminder that progress has a price and our efforts have an expiration date.

Many of the photos are gifs that show how the object works. How many of the twenty items have you owned at one time or another -and do you still have them? -via Laughing Squid

I still have way too many of those things, not sure if they all work - the one I'm always meaning to get down and try is the filmstrip projector. I've also got a super8 camera that my Uncle used to film his trip round Australia in the 1970's. I've just finished digitising my Dad's old slide collection which was a whole heap of fun although I curse his lack of labelling.

I still have an editing kit, too, although I'm sure the glue has dried and the alcohol has evaporated. The demagnifier probably still works, but what would anyone use it for?

I think I still have some of those computer disks somewhere. BTW, when I played in bands in the '70s, the reel-to-reel (shown above) was what separated the really hardcore music people from the rest of the world, who used cassette tapes, 8-tracks, etc. It was sort of the Whole Foods of the audio world.
