Should David Tennant Light The Olympic Torch?

Doctor Who fans may remember the David Tennant episode "Fear Her," which involved Mr. Tennant lighting the Olympic torch in the 2012 London games. As it turns out, fans are trying to make this a reality, starting a petition to have Mr. Tennant play The Doctor as he lights the torch in the upcoming games.

If you're interested, you can sign the petition at the link. If not, well, it probably won't happen anyway, so don't do anything.

the main problem with this idea is that the other 6.9999 billion people in the world who have never seen doctor who or think it is silly british trash don't want a random guy from old imperial england who has nothing to do with anything important lighting a torch which is supposed to represent global unity

@c0ldfish If you look at the people who have lit the fire in the past you'll find that while most were athletes there are no real standards or requirements.

@c0ldfish Where to start? There are so many errors in your post it's startling.

1. The Olympics are being held in Britain, so it will almost certainly be a Brit that lights the flame.

2. England never had an empire. Ever.

3. Global Unity? Don't make me laugh. It's a contest between professional sportspeople. The highest medal tally goes to the nation that spends the most money on its sporting program. What has that got to do with global unity?

4. The biggest error of them all: David Tennant is not English. And if you don't know why that's such a big issue you really have no clue at all.

I don't think I've ever seen a post based purely on assumption, prejudice and ignorance which was so short and contained so many errors. Well done!
