Glass Harmonica Duet

CDEFGABC from Lernert & Sander on Vimeo.

Lernert and Sander are two Dutch artists that decided "working alone was getting boring." They produce and write commercials, art movies and documentaries. They made this video using a dual glass harmonica for a short using pop music.  I have to admit -- part of me wished that they were going to play Nyan Cat on such colorful cups -- ingenious way of keeping track of which glass is what note!

About the project, the artists say:

Commit and dedicate yourself to even the most stupid ideas that come to mind.We built a duo glass harp and learned to play this 18th-century music instrumentin less than 8 weeks. Instead of a classical piece or suchlike, we have chosen the classic20th-century pop song ‘No limit’ by 2unlimited — easily the worst song ever!

Glass harp and glass harmonica are two completely different musical instruments. These musician are performing on a glass harp or sometimes called a glass organ. The glass harmonica was invented by Benjamin Franklin. It is a series of graduated crystal discs on a lathe type device that rotates. The musician wets his or hers fingers and then presses them against the spinning discs. Same tones but different process.
