Lorrie at Clueless in Carolina recently found a newspaper in her mother's home announcing the news that World War II had ended. Besides news, it contained sponsored ads celebrating VJ Day.

You could almost feel the joy and relief wafting off of the page. Holding the newspaper made me feel happy, as if the happiness of the people who printed, delivered and received the paper was somehow still preserved. Okay, I'm a weirdo! But I wish I could put it in your hands and see if you felt the same way.

So this is where most of the US thought they were god's gift and the only country on the planet. Considering Russia lost more troops and won most of the European theatre (and freed the Jews) and Britain was battling the Germans much longer with more casualties and just about every country was involved in the Pacific theatre. Other than being first to develop the cold war cursed bomb which, many scholars, and even some US generals, realized that the atomic bomb drop was most likely unnecessary for Japan's surrender, no wonder the US people have their heads up their collective arrogant asses.
