Underwater Volcano Eruption

Here is spectacular footage of an underwater volcano erupting near Tonga.

The eruption began Monday after a series of earthquakes near Tonga, a 170-island archipelago between Australia and Tahiti, residents told the Associated Press. There were magnitude-5.0 quakes there Sunday night and Monday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Though the Wellington Volcanic Ash Advisory Center (VAAC) issued an advisory for the area, the plume isn’t engendering island residents and so far hasn’t hurt fish or other animals, according to the AP.

Yesterday a plume rose to between 15,000 and 25,000 feet (4.6 to 7.6 kilometers), the Smithsonian's Global Volcanism Program reported. "It's a very significant eruption, on quite a large scale," Tonga's chief geologist, Kelepi Maf, told the Times of London. This is not unusual for this area and we expect this to happen here at any time."

"... and so far hasn’t hurt fish or other animals ..."

What!? This is ridiculous! Obviously, it killed a HUGE number of fish and other living things. BUT IT DOES NOT MATTER. That is the way the natural world works! Not only was the quoted comment wrong, but it was ridiculous in its intent, because it implies that human beings ought to just about WORSHIP wildlife.

That kind of worship was done by a relatively few folks in some primitive, poly/pantheistic, pagan religions (and is now done in those religions' ludicrous "New Age" reincarnations [no pun intended]). But the vast number of people in the world are educated monotheists who worship the one true God, not wildlife (which God created to decorate the world and for man's use/pleasure).

A wonderful spectacle of dynamic nature in action.

Now to complete the natural cycle, and have various nations claim the new land for territorial, fishing, and economic interests.

I bet that is a spectacular view from the boat, but I don't think I would be too eager to be there personally.

I'm a little surprised by the how calm the water is so close to such powerful event.

It hasn't hurt any fish ???? Please...of course it hurt some fish.

We can't stop the fish from getting hurt, but we could prevent shoddy reporting.
