Fun Facts About A Christmas Story

Our very own Stacy wrote a really neat article titled 12 Things You Might Not Know About A Christmas Story (even though you've seen it 90 times). Here's a couple of examples:

7. Next time you’re in Cleveland, you can visit the original
house from the movie for only $7.50. It was sold on eBay in 2004 for $150,000. Collector Brian Jones bought the house and restored it to its movie glory and stocked it up with some of the original props from the film, including Randy’s snowsuit.

8. Director Bob Clark got the idea for the movie when he was driving in the car with a date. He heard Jean Shepherd on the radio doing a reading of his short story collection, “In God We Trust… All Others Pay Cash,” which included some bits that eventually ended up in A Christmas Story. Clark said he drove around the block for an hour until the program ended, which his date was not too happy about.

My favorite bit from the movie is when the family ended up at a Chinese restaurant (fra ra ra ra ra) on Christmas day because that's where we always end up as well!

It is located in downtown Rogers, Arkansas in the Daisy BB gun museum.
They also have one of the Red-Ryder BB guns:

First time I actually sat down and watched this movie all the way through was 4 years ago. All the time before it, I just never gave the movie a chance for some reason, but I'm glad I finally did b/c it's become one of my fav Xmas movies.
It's fudgin hilarious!
That one part grosses me out though... when the father is picking at the turkey and the mother tells him to stop b/c he'll get worms.. YUCK.

Back in the late '50s I used to listen to Jean Sheppard on my pocket size transistor radio. With the ear plug since it was way past my bed time. Under the bed covers of course. I forget the time but believe it was from WOR (710 Kcs). I even managed to get my father to listen. Probably later when I was older and could officially stay up that late. He was hilarious. If you go to the News Groups you should be able to DL a bunch of MP3s of his programs.

love this movie because it was set in my hometown. The real story... not the movie. Jean Sheppard grew up here. Drank a lot of beer at Flick's Tap. My son went to school at the same school Shep went to.
