How do you make an abandoned building an extra air of mystery? Take a photo of it in HDR! Our pal WebUrbanist blog has compiled some of the most interesting HDR photographs of abandoned places around the world.

This one above is one of a series of amazing HDR shots of the abandoned Beelitz sanatorium in Brandenburg, Germany.


HDR is one of those things where, at first blush, it seems kind of cool, but then you see it EVERYWHERE and its novelty fades fast.

At least that's been my experience.

Man, I hate hate hate HDR. It strips images of all depth, contrast and subtlety. These pictures suffer especially, because they have less mystery about them than the originals would have! So pointless.
