Art from Pregnant Women's Bellies

Artist Tisha DeShields and her company Original Belly Works make decorative fiberglass shells from the protruding bellies of pregnant women. There's something especially beautiful about a very pregnant woman. But as my wife's nine months pregnant, I'm partial.

As someone who did belly casts of both my pregnancies, I still think most of those belly casts are beyond tacky. I like the idea of fiberglassing the cast, but bondage belly cast? Candy wrapper cast? Camouflage skanky tshirt cast? Tacky.

I presume you've never been pregnant or had a spouse who was, EvilBeagle.

I am in love with my six-months-along figure m'self. Usually I can't stand looking at my body in the mirror because the years have not been very kind to it. But with the addition of Mommy Glow and that wonderfully unique abdomen you don't get from overindulgence, I can't help it. I'll even make myself giggle so I can watch my perky belly bounce up and down like a soccer ball. And then Tabitha will kick me for making her home shake, and that makes me laugh even more...

I wouldn't take that away from you, TwoDragons. I am lucky that hubby and I are in agreement about not wanting children because the very notion of being pregnant makes me physically ill if I think about it too much.

No probs, Beagle. It just doesn't work out for some folks, that's just the way things roll. I have several friends who feel the same way as you, and I don't hold it against them any more than I'll hold it against you. I hope you have as much joy and contentment in your marriage and life as I do, however different our perspectives on motherhood may be. :-)

Although I can understand the appeal when you are pregnant/a parent, personally I find *some* of them a bit odd. Like the butterfly one on the front of the product's webpage...just a smidge creepy IMO. I dig the zebra print one.

My question becomes, what exactly do you do with them? I think displaying them is rather strange, and you'd be constantly dealing with company asking you "what the heck is that?" Maybe put it in the baby nursery? I dunno.
