I could see it being useful against a stanley knife or a broken bottle. These garments aren't designed to prevent you getting stabbed, you would need to spend a few hundred quid on a proper stab vest, which are heavy and often unbreathable due to the syringe/needle point barrier membrane regularly incorporated.
