Jennifer Zwick's Photography: The Reader

I just love this photo by Jennifer Zwick titled The Reader, 2005 - if children can be inspired to read like this, perhaps we won't have the embarrassing recent poll result showing a quarter of Americans didn't read at all last year!

Update 8/23/07: Jennifer Zwick sent us the photo of the book the little girl (a hyperbolic representation of herself as a child), in case you're curious what she's reading: Book Spine, Inside Book - Thanks Jennifer!

Wasn't that poll targeting adults? Sure the Harry Potter books have a large adult reading audience but they sure as Hell don't constitute the majority of adults who don't read.

i'd be more inclined to go with the poll than how many harry potter books have been sold.
not reading books only shows lack of discipline and interest, nothing more

The article said that a quarter of people didn't read a book last year, not that they didn't read. As an adult in this 25%, I need to make the point that I read every day. I read blogs, news, and I never miss Neatorama. It's the media that's changing, not the amount of reading. Books are on the way to joining stone tablets and scrolls.
