Concept Art For An Animated Version Of Dune

Frank Herbert's Dune is one of the most iconic science fiction series of all time, and yet for some reason the series has never received the animated series adaptation it deserves.

So far the book series has received a movie adaptation directed by David Lynch that came out in 1984, followed by two different miniseries covering the first three books that aired on the Sci-Fi channel in 2000 and 2003. But where's the cartoon?

Now, thanks to concept artist Matt Rhodes, we have an idea of what the character designs would look like for an animated Dune series, stylistically influenced by the films of Tarsem Singh.

Young Punks In London Interviewed Five Years After "Anarchy In The U.K."

When you're young and obsessed with the punk rock subculture you can't help but believe you'll be in to the music, the spiky hair and the piercings for the rest of your life.

But being punk is something most people outgrow, and most punks trade in their mohawks and piercings for something more mundane after a while, remembering what it felt like to let your rebellious side fly in the face of convention.

Photographer Virginia Turbett was asked to interview young punks in London for The Face Magazine back in 1981, five years after the Sex Pistols song "Anarchy In The U.K." was released, which is often seen as the beginning of the punk rock subculture.

Virginia asks the young and dangerous about their favorite bands, when they started dressing punk and whether they'll be punks for life, and their answers were surprisingly unsnotty for a bunch of teen punks. I guess their mums raised them right!

Ten Of The Deadliest Human Stampedes

When fear spreads through a crowd and everybody begins to run in all directions, blinded by fear and unsure who or what they're stomping on as they flee for safety, a human stampede can be just as deadly as a rampaging herd of cattle.

In 2005 a stampede broke out when thousands of Shiites who were headed to a religious festival panicked as the rumor of a suicide bomber spread among the crowd.

The death toll from this single incident matched casualty numbers from the beginning of the U.S. led invasion of Iraq, and all because of blind panic caused by a rumor that proved to be untrue.

A stampede of marchers is one thing, but stadium stampedes are something we can all relate to, and the 1989 Hillsborough Stadium Stampede showed that sports fans will kill to watch a match.

The stadium gates were opened to alleviate some of the crowding outside the stadium, and as the fans poured in they found no place to go but forward.

In the end 93 people were crushed to death and over 200 were wounded when a crowd control tactic proved to be a tragic mistake.

Tread carefully when you read about the 10 Deadliest Human Stampedes, because you might not want to be around large groups of people ever again!

"Gunslinger" Is The Western Movie Mega Supercut Of Your Dreams

Movie genres don't come much more iconic than the classic Western, where gunslingers and cowboys battle bad guys in black hats on behalf of the less heroic people trying to make a home for themselves in the Old West.

Fans know the theme songs, the look that means a shootout is about to go down, and the weather worn face of a Western hero trying to mind their own business in a world full of bandits and scavengers.

Smash TV put together an action packed, mega sized supercut called "Gunslinger",which is an hour long and made from over 50 classic Westerns so it's guaranteed to blow you away!

Presidential Candidates' Flaws As Playable Video Games

The 2016 presidential election is already reaching levels of ridiculousness none of us saw coming...on second thought, some of us expected it to become a circus when Trump threw his hat into the ring, but that's just common sense.

Now that things are in full swing, and the candidates have let the world know what they think and intend to do about the problems we currently face in the U.S. we can now focus on each candidate's flaws.

But let's not analyze those flaws in that boring old “tear the candidate down so another will win” kinda way, let's actually play out their flaws via video game and see if we still like our candidate.

Cracked's Erik Germ created four simple Flash games that perfectly portray their boring flaws- Hillary's Shoot 'em Up, Donald Trump's Road To The White House, Bernie Sanders in Bernie: The Game and last but most fun to play Jeb Bush in Choose Your Own Jeb-Venture.

Read about (and play!) 4 Presidential Hopefuls' Flaws (As Playable Video Games) here (Flash is required to play games)

Common Universe Theories That Tie Together Your Favorite TV Shows

When you're binge watching your favorite TV shows it's easy to see connections between them in terms of plot points, characterization, and gags, especially if the shows you're watching are all from the same genre.

But different shows by different creators rarely cross over for real, mainly due to licensing and network restrictions, so these theories about shows sharing a common universe are impossible to prove...or are they?

Creator of The Wire David Simon came up with a shared universe theory involving his character Detective John Munch from Homicide: Life On The Streets and Law & Order: SVU, and then he proceeded to blow our minds by putting Munch in shows like The X-Files, 30 Rock and even St. Elsewhere.

And that's where the Munchverse intersects with the Tommy Westphall Multiverse, which says that all kinds of shows are actually just playing out in the mind of young autistic boy Tommy Westphall, a character from St. Elsewhere. So does that mean Munch is actually God? Wait, I'm lost...

Selfies Have Killed More People Than Sharks In 2015

Something can truly be called a craze when people are willing to put themselves in harm's way just to be a part of the craze, so it's official- selfies are a craze that must come to an end before more people die.

People young and old are putting their lives on the line just to get that perfect self portrait to share via social media, and so far in 2015 selfies have been responsible for more deaths than shark attacks.

And in Russia hundreds of selfie related injuries are reported each year, with ten selfie related deaths in 2015, so Russian authorities have created a selfie safety campaign, including an illustrated pamplhet, to battle this e-pic-demic.

So what's the solution to this smartphone safety issue? Well, it starts with putting your phone away so you can experience the world around you IRL instead of with accompanying hashtags and LOLs on the interwebs.

This Is What Road Rage Looks Like In Northern England

Road rage incidents happen every day on the hardcore highways of Los Angeles and New York, but in cities in northern England there are far fewer incidents on the road, especially since the Public Order Act was passed in 1986.

But Hull, in Yorkshire, is the third worst city in the UK for road rage, and that ranking may have something to do with a man named Ronnie Pickering.

(YouTube Link)

Road rage in Hull looks a lot like New York or L.A. road rage, except without all the fisticuffs and guns. Now Ronnie Pickering is becoming known on the interwebs, but not because he's a great fisherman or the world's best husband, but because he's a hothead who really wants to box bikers.

Glen Keane has remained on the cutting edge of digital art technology for most of his career, starting with integrating 2D character animation with 3D backgrounds on movies like Beauty and the Beast   and later with his work on the interactive animated story Duet.

The short doc Step Into The Page, created for the Future of Storytelling Summit, allows the viewer to watch Glen sketch in virtual space, his three dimensional renderings of Ariel and Beast proving a talented artist can create something great no matter which tools they use.

Priceless Artifacts That Were Destroyed By Careless People

The problem with priceless ancient artifacts is they're generally quite fragile and almost always irreplaceable, so leaving them in the hands of the careless and irreverent is a terrible idea.

And yet some of the world's most precious, and sacred, artifacts have been left in the hands of people who think it's just fine to take them apart, modify or destroy them like so much junk.

The Star-Spangled Banner is the Smithsonian's most prized possession, but before it landed in their collection it was savaged by the scissors of Georgiana Armistead, daughter of Lt. Col. George Armistead, who received the flag after the Battle of Baltimore in the War of 1812.

Georgiana loved the Star-Spangled Banner, but she thought it was too beautiful for one person to own, so she started snipping off pieces of the flag and giving them to people she deemed worthy.

More than 200 feet of the flag, including one of the fifteen original stars, were lost because of Georgiana's giving nature.

People often think they're doing good by destroying these ancient artifacts because they're being destroyed in the sake of progress.

Archaeologists were in the process of excavating ancient tombs in Guangzhou's Lougang district when their dig was derailed by contractors working on Metro Line 6, who came in with bulldozers and reduced a piece of Chinese history to rubble.

The Identity Of Batman's Greatest Villain Is Revealed

There's the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler the Two Face and the Mr. Freeze, and then there's the "greatest villain" who is pulling their strings like a wicked puppeteer...but not the Puppeteer because he's just another pawn in the game.

But who is this mysterious criminal mastermind, and why does he despise the Caped Crusader so much? The answer lies in this pixel perfect animated short by Dorkly, and the answer will rock your world. (Barely NSFW due to language)

Okay, so it isn't an earth shattering revelation, but wasn't that a fun waste of a minute and a half?

Two Dedicated Fans Create Epic Scale Taylor Swift Corn Maze

Singer Taylor Swift has legions of teenage fans, and quite a few older fans too, but most of her adult fans don't wear their Taylor Swift Fan Club buttons with pride.

But there are two dedicated adult fans out there who don't mind sharing their love of Ms. Swift with the world, and their love of Taylor can be seen from high above in the corn maze they cut out in her honor.

(YouTube Link)

Jeff and Theresa Greenwood turned 12 acres of Summers Farm in Maryland into a corn maze Swift herself dubbed "Lawn Goals" for an upcoming fall festival, although the couple claims they didn't create the maze because they're fans:

"Don't get me wrong," says Jeff, "I'm not a die-hard Swiftie that goes crazy or cries when I see her name, but I've always been amazed by Taylor's story and who she is."

Sure thing Jeff, your non-Swiftie status has been confirmed. *wink*
