Creepy Photo Series About The Soul Sucking Nature Of Smartphones

The integration of smartphones into our daily lives has proven to be too much for some people to handle, and now they're driving, walking into busy intersections and doing other things requiring full attention while staring at their smartphones.

It's almost as if the phones are actually putting them into a trance, sucking their souls out as they go through their daily lives with their eyes glued to that tiny screen.

Okay, so the argument could be made that these people would be spacing out on something else if they didn't have a smartphone, but I kinda like the idea of smartphones sucking out our souls through our eyeballs.

And that's the story I take away from photographer Antoine Geiger's slightly disturbing series SUR-FAKE, no preaching just pure horror!

Cringeworthy Facebook Posts That Will Make You Want To Quit Social Media

Facebook is full of cringeworthy content, and sometimes it seems impossible to look through your news feed without seeing some ridiculous post that make you shake your head and say "Why, Facebook, WHY?!"

(Image Link)

These posts are often the result of an unedited brain dump, posted by someone who doesn't realize they can actually change how their FB friends think of them by posting something stupid online.

(Image Link)

Parental posts are equally cringeworthy, but for a different reason- we feel sorry for the kids being embarrassed by their parents' posts, as we're forced to share in their social media sorrow.

The Terrifying Tales Behind Celebrity Scars

A celebrity can become famous for many reasons, including their acting ability, their attractiveness, and their on-screen presence, just to name a few. But some actors can actually add their flaws to this list of reasons why they're famous, becoming known for their super obvious scars.

Michael K. Williams, Tina Fey and Tommy Flanagan all have distinctive facial scars, which serve as a constant reminder of the time they survived a violent assault with a deadly edged weapon.

Tina Fey was just five years old when her face was slashed by a stranger behind her house.

Michael K. Williams was sliced by a razor during a fight at a house party, resulting in that signature scar that will forever typecast him as a tough guy.

And then there's Tommy Flanagan, who was jumped by thugs while working as a DJ in Scotland and given a Glasgow Smile, his face cut from his lips to his ears, leaving him with facial scars that tell a terrifying tale.

LED Hand Lights Are The Latest Trend Among Biohackers

The latest phase in our quest to "enhance" the human body should be the subdermal installation of electric wiring, allowing a different kind of electricity to flow through our bodies and power onboard devices.

But since we're in the real 21st century and not the sci-fi version we'll have to settle for these kinda cool looking LED lights implanted in the back of the hand.

This electrifying new trend among biohackers is called the Northstar V1- it's about the size of a large coin with magnetically activated LED lights that can light up about 10,000 times before the batteries need to be changed.

The Northstar V1 was created by the Pittsburgh based collective known as Grindhouse Wetware, who developed the device after multiple requests for a way to light up tattoos. But to me it looks like a sugically implanted way to make an Iron Man cosplay way more realistic!

Fifteen Non-Sexual Uses For Condoms

Some guys stockpile condoms when they're sexually active, convincing themselves they'll need to have hundreds of condoms on hand when they could easily get by with a half dozen.

Soon their bedside drawer is overflowing with safe sex products, and the time comes to thin out the "collection" before it scares away potential partners. But what's a guy to do with all those extra condoms?

(YouTube Link)

He could donate them to a friend's cause, or he could do something fun with them like use them as an improvised fishing bobber, take them on a camping trip and use them to start a fire, or fill them with flour and put them to use as a stress balloon.

(YouTube Link)

Just make sure you use the non-lubricated variety or those suckers are liable to go flying across the room!

Before And After The PC Makeover- Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever

Reading Richard Scarry books isn't supposed to be a scary experience for children- they're supposed to expose children to realistic life scenarios so kids better understand the society they live in.

Even though the people and the perils are the same as they were when Richard Scarry's books first started coming out in the 1950s, a shift in social values has changed how we describe our world.

Photographer Alan Taylor spotted some differences between the 1963 version of Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever and the 1991 version, as the book received a PC makeover to reflect modern social attitudes.

Some of the changes seem a bit nitpicky, like removing pretty and handsome from character descriptions, but there's one change everyone can get behind- dad's cooking!

The 67-Year-Old Grindcore Phenomenon Known As The Grindmother

First little kids started embracing the dark and brutal sounds of metal, and now seniors are out to prove you're never too old to melt faces, with one 67-year-old Canadian mother leading the charge.

She calls herself The Grindmother, and she is supporting her son's musical career in the coolest way possible- by laying down some Grindcore vocals.

Her son's band Corrupt Leaders allowed her to break into the Grindcore scene, but nowadays The Grindmother is striking out on her own, selling her solo track "Any Cost" on her Bandcamp page with more songs to come soon.

How Can We Feel When Someone Is Staring At Us?

Have you ever had the feeling somebody was staring at you only to discover that you were right, as you awkwardly locked eyes with the starer and felt your skin crawl?

That feeling has nothing to do with your latent psychic abilities manifesting themselves, it's actually just your brain responding to social cues and reacting to the power of the human gaze.

(YouTube Link)

According to an eye opening article from Psychology Today, the gaze is so important to us socially that our brains have developed a "gaze detection system" which can actually tell when someone is staring right at us:

This "gaze detection" system is especially sensitive to whether someone's looking directly at you (for example, whether someone's staring at you or at the clock just over your shoulder). Studies that record the activity of single brain cells find that particular cells fire when someone is staring right at you, but—amazingly—not when the observer's gaze is averted just a few degrees to the left or right of you (then different cells fire instead).

This specialized machinery in the brain reveals just how important your gaze is when communicating with others. Where you look conveys how you feel and what your intentions are, what you like and what you don't like, and directs attention to meaningful things in the environment. Further, making direct eye contact is the most frequent and perhaps the most powerful non-verbal signal we exchange with others; it's central to intimacy, intimidation, and social influence.

Video Games Summarized In 140 Characters Or Less

The stories found in video games can be long and complicated, like a series of novels being played out in real time, or short and sweet, like a punch to the face of a dastardly street tough.

But, no matter the length of the game or depth of storyline, all video games can be succinctly described in a Tweet, meaning they can be summed up in 140 characters or less.

Whether classic or modern, with a story that changed your life or simply full of mind numbing button mashing fun, it's usually pretty easy to describe why we like our favorite games.

But coming up with a way to describe them in 140 characters or less without cheating might take a few playthroughs.

Jetpack Pilot Takes A Test Flight Around The Statue Of Liberty

Back in the day we were told the Future would include jetpacks for all, but then the Future became our Present Day and we began to realize there would be no jetpacks after all, only Segway scooters and Uber rides.

Those who can't help but feel like there's something missing from our 21st century lives will definitely have that feel confirmed by this high flying video from JetPack Aviation.

(YouTube Link)

JetPack Aviation CEO David Mayman wants to show us what our futuristic lives are missing- the JB-9 JetPack, which he calls "the first true jetpack".

David's trip across the Hudson River look like a very fun ride, but he must have some crazy high level security clearance to be able to fly the JB-9 so close to the Statue Of Liberty!

Incredibly Cool Cosplay From BlizzCon 2015

BlizzCon is the celebration of all things Blizzard, a convention dedicated to the impact Blizzard Entertainment has had on the gaming industry, especially with their MMORPG World Of Warcraft.

Each year a horde of hardcore Blizzfans descend upon a convention center in Anaheim and chill with their fellow fans IRL while they're AFK, and as you'd expect many of the attendees like to cosplay at the event.

Cosplayers craft their BlizzCon costumes with extra care, knowing they'll be hearing about their costumes from both Guildies and their rivals online until they up the ante, or redeem themselves, at next year's BlizzCon.
