Rick Tomlinson's Comments

I am a SAHD dad who hasn't worked more than part time (outside the home) in years. My wife is and has been the breadwinner in our family for years. It hasn't always sat well with some extended family or peers, but I have never felt the slightest bit diminished by her success and most of our friends and family have been supportive. She is a physicist currently working as an engineer in a predominantly male industry and I am a kickass homemaker.

Except that in the case of the Bible, they actually WERE separate books (well, scrolls and codices) originally. They were assembled before any 'common standard' even existed. As for HP vs LOTR - Return of the King was not in its final form when Fellowship was published. LOTR actually established the pattern followed by other book series comprising a defined story told across multiple volumes.

Not sure which is worse - her complete failure to understand the electorate (her candidate won Arizona handily) or the way she acted on her ignorance. I am, however, endlessly amused by the knowledge that, once convicted for the felony, she'll be losing her own right to vote.

I spent time as a missionary in South America and every home had multiple bibles, even when the owners were functionally illiterate. Also grew up in a religious coomunity with loads of bibles and loads of people who, to this day, haven't actually read it.

I don't see why a complete series of books can't be counted as one book that was simply divided for purposes of sales - but then I suppose that means buying the whole HP set should count as one sale, not seven. Perhaps it would be more fair to divide the number of sales by the number of books, then. And in that case, the bible moves waaay down the list, even after we demote HP, LOTR and {{{Twilight}}}. Forgive the shudder.

If your prediction proves correct, then humanity will have finally conquered literacy. And beaten it to death.
