Children’s Books Inspired by Game of Thrones

A young child may not be ready to watch Game of Thrones. If you’re under the age of 50, it could be psychologically damaging because the story is so disturbing. For such younger audiences, there are children’s book versions. Monique Steele of BuzzFeed photoshopped 7 covers of famous children’s books to give them Game of Thrones content.

Three Women inside a Car Lip Sync Hits from the Past 70 Years

(Video Link)

Shae-Lee Shackleford, Lana Kington, and Madison Lloyd are SketchShe, a comedy troupe in Australia. In a funny and well-produced video, they lip sync top songs since the 1940s, changing costumes every few seconds. It’s really well-made and performed. They do everything including “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by The Andrews Sisters (1941), “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana (1991), and “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus (2013).

ThinkGeek's Creation For April Fool's Day 2015- The Voltron Cat Condo

The nerdy crew at ThinkGeek have an annual April Fool's Day tradition that's both fun and a bit frustrating- they release images of fake products, complete with links to fake product pages in their shop, then laugh like maniacs as fans go crazy for that shiny new product they'll never get to own.

People got wise to their ways and stopped believing in their April Fool's Day product releases, and then they went and changed the game again- by actually producing some of their most popular fake products.

This year ThinkGeek went big and feline friendly with their April Fool's Day product release for 2015- The Voltron Cat Condo:

With a $190 price tag the Voltron Cat Condo isn't going to be one of their best sellers, and frankly looks like a pretty easy DIY project, but the cats look pretty pleased with their epic robo condo!

Allonsy! - Who Said That?!

Allonsy! by Tom Ryan's Studio

The tenth incarnation of the Doctor was known for many things- his signature trench coat, his love of 3D glasses, and his madcap personality, but there's one French phrase that describes him better than all the rest. It has come to be known as his catchphrase, though who needs a catchphrase when you're a time travelling lord, and whenever we hear that phrase uttered we can't help but think of the tenth. That phrase, of course, is Allons-Y, meaning "let's go", and when the Doctor shows up at your door yelling "Allons-Y, Allons-Y!" you either go or regret not going for the rest of your life!

Bring some sci-fi character to your geeky wardrobe with this Allonsy! t-shirt by Tom Ryan's Studio, it's a fun way to show love for your favorite incarnation of the Doctor!

Inventions That Make Hair In A Can Seem Brilliant

They say necessity of the mother of invention and while it certainly plays a role in most good creations, there are others inventions that must have been borne from madness, arogance or just plain stupidity. TopTenz has compiled an excellent list of just such creations ranging from the car spittoon (above) to a Razr phone that is actually equipped with a working electric razor.

Of course, not everything that seems to be an immediate failure is actually worthless. TNT is on the list not because the invention was a failure, but because it was not very good at its initial purpose, which was to work as a yellow dye. Personally, I'm glad that didn't work out as I'd hate to be wearing a tee shirt that could explode at any given time.

Forget Futons, These Are More Like Cute-ons

I don't know about you guys, but ever since watching Despicable Me, I've dreamed of having a Minion of my own. I don't mean a traditional minion that helps me acheive my evil goals -(though that would be nice too), but a cute yellow Minion that loves bananas and talks in non-sensical gibberish. While that may be an impossibility for now, at least I can settle for the next best thing thanks to Etsy seller SleepingPalace, who makes full-sized minion beds for geeks like me to snuggle in.

For those that instead have a soft spot for a certain friendly neighbor, SleepingPalace also offers Totoro beds for you to cuddle up with. As for me, I think I'll take one of each.

10 DIY Ways to Decorate Your Easter Eggs

Easter is almost here and if you're tired of simple rainbow colored eggs but don't have the skills to turn your own eggs into works of art, then you're in luck. We've rounded up some of the coolest DIY Easter egg directions so you can make something truly unique this holiday no matter what your skill level.

Simple Patterns

These beautiful eggs look like they took forever to color, but in actuality, they just took a short bath in boiling water and vinegar while wrapped up in a silk tie. The tie releases an array of colors that make your eggs look like works of art. Our Best Bites has the full tutorial.

Felted Easter Eggs

Felting eggs isn't particularly easy, but this tutorial by MakeZine shows it is much easier than it looks. In fact, you'll be amazed how quickly you can master the skill and create beautiful decorations you can use year after year.

Shabby Chic

This tutorial on Sylwia Serwin isn't in English, but it has so many images that you could probably replicate the process without even turning on Google translate. Essentially, you use a dremel, 3D paint, sandpaper and Mod Podge to make a simple egg look like an antique Easter decoration.

Message on Car Window Secures a Kidney Donor

Christine Royles, 23, of South Portland, Maine needed a kidney. She took a spot on the national waiting list for a donor kidney, which is over 100,000 patients long. The odds were bad, so in an act of desperation, she wrote a message on the back of her car asking for a kidney.

Ashley Dall-Leighton saw it and responded immediately. The Portland Press Herald quotes her:

“I looked over,” says Ashley Dall-Leighton, “and I go, ‘Oh, my God, that’s the saddest thing I’ve ever read.’ And he’s like, ‘What?’ And I read it out loud, and he said, ‘Did you get the number? Text her right now.'”

Life-Size Chocolate Benedict Cumberbatch

(Photo: UKTV)

UKTV conducted a poll and determined that Benedict Cumberbatch is Britain's yummiest actor. So it commissioned chocolatiers to build this life-size sculpture of the Sherlock and Star Trek Into Darkness star. It consists of over 88 pounds of Belgian chocolate, which is about 33% cocoa. It took about 250 hours of work and the results are truly drool-worthy. You can see more photos of it at BuzzFeed.

Retired Wonder Woman

Once she was a big star--a hero who saved the world many times and fought alongside other famous heroes, including Superman and Batman. But Wonder Woman grew old and gradually lost her powers. Now she's Retired Wonder Woman, a performer at fan conventions.

(Video Link)

Wonder Woman is not in good health. Part of that comes from some bad habits, particularly her chain smoking. She now has to walk with a cane. But she gets along pretty well for her age and is available for hired appearances.

1947: Bill in US Congress Would Offer Statehood to Iceland

(Image: Uwe Dedering)

Bertrand “Bud” Gearhart (R-CA) was a member of the US House of Representatives from 1935-1949. In the early years of the Cold War, he was concerned about Soviet international ambitions, especially as the French and British empires receded. He thought it prudent that American strength should reach out to confront the Soviets. Gearhart was particularly concerned about the north Atlantic. So, in 1947, he introduced a bill in the House of Representatives that would seek to purchase Greenland from Denmark and offer statehood to Iceland, which had been an independent nation for nearly 3 years. An Associated Press report from that time quotes him:

“Americans must give thought to the ramparts we watch, not merely to the ramparts we once watched,” Gearhart declared in the house. “It is time we give some consideration to the ever avaricious outside world.”

“With Russia extending herself in all directions and England and France clinging tenaciously to their respective empires,” Gearhart added, the islands should be acquired to ensure the defense of the U.S. and possessions “before the last flicker of gratitude among our erstwhile allies dies out.”

I can find no evidence that the House passed the bill.
