Pastry Ice Cream Cones Are the Greatest Invention in Human History

(Photo via redditor iBleedorange)

These are trdelník. They are pastries from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Street Food around the World: An Encyclopedia of Food and Culture describes them as a sweet dough made into long strands, then wrapped around wood or metal rods, then baked while rotating over an open fire. They're often coated with sugar, cinnamon, or nuts after baking.

In this case, an unknown genius has filled the hollow pastry with chocolate sauce and soft serve ice cream!

Finally! A Laptop Selfie Stick

(Photo: MacBook Selfie Stick)

Sure, selfie sticks are an essential tool for independent life. Every home needs, at minimum, a toilet plunger, a pair of pliers, and a selfie stick.

But what if you don't have a cellphone? Then that selfie stick won't be useful. You need a way to take photos of yourself with your laptop computer. That's why artists Moises, John Yuyi, and Tom Galle made a laptop selfie stick. Specifically, it's a selfie stick for a MacBook. They call it the MacBook Selfie Stick.

Do you see Tom Galle with his MacBook in Times Square? He's cool. You know why? Because he has a selfie stick for his MacBook. And you don't.

I don't have a laptop--just a desktop computer. Can I get a selfie stick for it?

Biker Picks Up Abused Dog Off The Road and 'Cycles Him to Safety

Brandon Turnbow and the dog he rescued from a life of abuse

Brandon Turnbow, a singer/songwriter from Burleson, Texas, was riding his motorcycle en route to his father's house one day when he witnessed a terrible sight. He noticed a blue SUV that was pulled over, and saw a man in the SUV who looked like he was hitting something, yet the target of the violence was out of Turnbow's sight just then. Turnbow continues the story,

"The opposite side passenger door flies open and the man knocks this little white dog up into the air and onto his back in the ditch. I was in shock at that point seeing this little harmless dog on his back in convulsions from the blow…

So I go straight to the place where the dog was and find the dog standing about two feet from the highway where the vehicles were passing. Im scared he is going to dart out and get hit but he doesnt thank God. I jump off my bike and just kneel down beside him and start talking to him. He slowly steps closer shaking like crazy and his breathing was very heavy. I take a chance and just fold my body over him to see if he will bite or trust me. He then just lays his body into me shaking so I just stand up with him in my arms and sit him on the bike seat.”

The SUV driver sped away before Turnbow turned around and was able to reach the scene. But now the dog, whom he calls Mr. Davidson, is in good, caring hands. A look at the smile on the dog's face in the picture below says it all.

Check out Turnbow's Facebook page for more uplifting updates about his new best friend, and follow him on Twitter as well. Via Uproxx

For This Cosplayer, The Hijab Is an Essential Tool

Ariel from The Little Mermaid

For Saraswati, a makeup artist in Malaysia, the head scarf isn't an obstacle to effective cosplay. In fact, without it, she wouldn't be nearly as effective. She uses a wide variety of colors, fabrics, and arrangements to depict her characters perfectly.

Donut Hair

(Photo: unknown)

It's a fashion and a snack! Donut hair is the latest style for men, women, and long-haired dogs. I prefer mine jelly-filled, but icing and sprinkles are also good. Head to your local donut/barber shop and buy your own.

Brofist

Sure, in a legal sense, redditor schizophrenicwheel owns Magnus the tarantula. But they're actually just friends--bros, really. In the past, she gave him a birthday hat for an iguana's birthday party.

Then, a year ago, she gave him a plush stuffed tarantula as a toy. He responded affectionately with a brofist. That's a polite spider who stays up on modern etiquette.

Rare Video of Baby Cut Out of Amniotic Sac After En Caul Birth

YouTube Link

This video uploaded to Facebook by user Jasmine Perez contains a rare sight. The footage shows a baby immediately after its en caul birth. "En caul" refers to a baby being born within its unbroken amniotic sac. This is a rare medical happening, occurring in approximately 1 in 80,000 births.

Typically, prior to giving birth and in the early stages of labor, a woman's "water breaks," which is a common phrase for the amniotic sac rupturing. In this case, the doctor cut open and removed the amniotic sac and the healthy baby was breathing normally.

Last year, Miss Cellania featured a photo of a baby at six months of development after being delivered by emergency C-section in its intact amniotic sac. Videos such as the one above are exceedingly rare. Via IFL Science

This Guy Built a Functional Ice Sword

A few months ago, Allen Pan wowed the internet with a Mjölnir that only he (and, presumably, Thor) could pick up. It was a clever illusion that worked thanks to a powerful electromagnet and a fingerprint scanner keyed to Pan's thumb.

Now Pan is back with a new stunt. He built a sword out of ice. It's strong enough to chop through a watermelon, as well as decapitate helpless snowmen.

(Video Link)

Pan made of his sword out of Pykrete, which is a composite material of water ice and sawdust. It's a tremendously tough material--so much so that during World War II, the Allies considering building warships out of it.

Pan used toilet paper instead of sawdust for the wood component. His mix was 86% water and 14% toilet paper.

He shaped the Pykrete into a sword mold. It's a blunt object without an edge, but it's still strong enough to do a lot of damage. Just imagine that watermelon is a human head and you can see what Pykrete can do.

What Fruits and Vegetables Looked Like Before We Domesticated Them

Wild Carrot | Image: Genetic Literacy Program

For better or for worse, we humans seem to leave our mark on everything we touch. In the context of the article linked below, the topic is fruits and vegetables: their appearance before and after human domestication. Whether these changes in our produce come about by GMO, in which genes are spliced from other organisms, or specialized breeding plans by farmers (commonly referred to as selective breeding), the results can be significant.

Like the wild carrot pictured above, this article lists before and after pictures of fruits and vegetables that humans have altered to their tastes.  Via The Presurfer

This 110-Year-Old Woman Proves Being A Centenarian Is For The Birds

Make it to your golden years and people will start turning a blind eye to your foul language, daytime drinking and surly attitude, and if you're still alive after a century you can do whatever the heck you want!

When Flossie Dickey was interviewed by Good Day Spokane on her 110th birthday she wasn't terribly thrilled about the day, much to the chagrin of the bubbly reporter interviewing her.

But we did learn a few things about living past one hundred- you no longer get excited about parties.

Space Out On These Galactic Cats

Some cats act like they're from another planet, others simply like to space out on laser beams and any bug that happens to be passing by, but felines are just far out that way and that's just another reason why we love them.

If cats are the center of your critter universe then you'll probably enjoy this "Galaxy Cats" series by illustrator Jen Bartel, where kitties and stuff from outer space collide.

Jen's passion project has grown to include a bevy of different cat breeds, from the pouty Persian to the bratty Bombay to the extra fluffy Norwegian Forest Cat, all of which are available as prints in Jen's shop. It's a mashup made in the heavens!

Pop-Tart Tequila Shots

You've got liquor. You've got sugary pastries. You've got deep frying.

This is a photo of human civilization.

Amy of the food blog Oh, Bite It loves her liquor and her deep fryer. She puts them together in this wonderful concoction called the Pop-Tart Tequila Shot. First, she prepared a batter of tequila and pancake mix. She dipped Pop-Tarts into batter, then deep fried them. Finally, she topped the traditional breakfast food with a glaze of lemon juice and sprinkles. Yummy! This will make getting the kids to eat breakfast so much easier.

Personal Space Cards

It's not that I don't like you. It's just that I don't like being so close to other people. Good fences make good neighbors, you know.

Michael Pederson, a street artist in Sydney, Australia, makes signs and leaves them in public places. For his most recent project, he printed these helpful cards and left them available for people to use. They would no doubt be helpful for dealing with strangers who get a bit too close.

All The Cool Stuff That Was Too Expensive To Include In Deadpool

It's a sad but true fact that movie studios didn't have much faith in Deadpool, and if Ryan Reynolds hadn't championed the picture it may not have made it to the big screen.

But now I bet the studio is wishing their box office projections had been a bit more accurate, because they could have left in all kinds of cool stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor.

io9 put together a comprehensive collection of Everything That Was Too Expensive To Include In Deadpool, and in the interest of remaining spoiler free here's a partial list of what was cut:

a bartender, a guy with robot arms, a young member of the X-Men, a couple of villains, a couple of heroes and lots of sweet action scenes. 'Nuff said!
