We live near the end of the municipal walking trail, and my big tomcat knows everyone who walks it regularly. I've met so many people who want to talk about Apollo and how he expects them to pet him every day.
I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is prest Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree.
I thought of Cuckoo's Nest, too. This is a good short film, but it appears to demonize nursing homes. In reality, they are harder to get into than get out of. If a man in that good of physical shape needed to be in a nursing home, he probably has Alzheimers. If he wanted to run, it could be arranged for someone to go with him. Health care facilities encourage physical activity because it seriously keeps residents from dying.
My kids should see this. They are fascinated by dial phones in antique stores. When they first encountered one, they couldn't believe all the trouble we used to go through to make a call.
I used Zener cards in a high school science fair project. My subjects thought they were getting an ESP test, but you'll be glad to hear it was a math project -specifically, statistics. I won first prize, too.
Sometimes it's quite hilarious. Other times, they are so metaphorically close to the truth that it hurts. The fact that people will swallow these stories as literal news is just sad.
I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I have a friend who owns a nursery. In the summer, they empty out their greenhouses, but they still call them "greenhouses."
