The same process is used to create 'baby' carrots. The man who developed this product died in 2005

Until then, broken or misshapen carrots were of very low value. They could be used for carrot juice or animal fodder or pre-cut carrots for freezing or canning. Yurosek combined an automatic cutter and potato peeling machine to cut and then abrade carrot pieces into the familiar 'baby' shapes we see today.

So, the Japanese are self-regulating and orderly. The Germans also want to be orderly, but feel that they must install an orderly infrastructure to act as a framework (for efficiency?). Americans and Aussies are (sorry, I hope not to offend) pretty similar. EXCEPT that Americans may travel in single-sex groups occasionally. Some Americans also kinda-sorta try to get their ducks in a row, but don't want to be too rigid about it, since they're on vacation. The French are unruly, but some attempt to set themselves as an example, vainly hoping that the others will get a clue.

Insects are able to see things much faster than we do. A fluorescent light is supposed to appear to an insect as a blinking light, since they flash at 60 cycles per second. A CRT television, then, would appear as a blinking light scanning across the screen, tracking from top to bottom, then starting again from the top, but offset by one line. I would think that this test can only work with modern LCD monitors, and would fail with a CRT.
