Multiple circular saws. Helicopter. Trees. Power lines.
What could go wrong?
(Actually, these guys are professionals, and they seem to know what they're doing. Still, it's hair-raising to watch)

His comment about the effort needed to maintain his things giving him more appreciation is well put. The early 20th century was before we had so much planned obsolescence and consumer-mindedness. Looking at the luggage carried for a long steamship journey, one is struck by how little was carried along.
The trouble is, I kept expecting him to come across a dead man with a knife in his back, or some other artifact of a Ms. Marple visit!

yeah, that part is a bit hard to believe. I don't know how they could have stored music on x-rays on a kitchen-table basis. The article doesn't seem to say anything about the process, but I'd be interested to know how it was accomplished. There's a Japanese company that made a wonderful plastic cup phonograph that cut a groove using a needle, but I'd think that such audio-cutting into an X-ray sheet would be really poor quality, since they had access to reel-to-reel tape.

Thank you. I recently read about this in an article about the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor); a fusion energy research project. The project has booked time on the Mare Nostrum, and I was fascinated by the name and the location of this computer. The photo is a beautiful and haunting juxtaposition of old and new.

Proverbs 26:26-27
(26)Though his hatred covers itself with guile, His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly. (27)He who digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone, it will come back on him.
