Doggone It! Man's Car Eaten by Savage Dogs

Photo: Chloe Erlich

Clayton Dwyer is bummed. Really bummed. He woke up one morning to find that his car had been eaten by savage dogs!

Clayton Dwyer, 47, of Millner, thought his girlfriend was kidding when she woke him up and told him his work ute had been gnawed by a pack of savage dogs. But when he walked outside his Beetson Place home he discovered this was no joke.

His front bumper had been ripped from the car and chewed to bits by the dogs. They had even tried to munch on the front panels.

"You can see the teeth marks," he said.

Asked what he thought when he first saw the damage, Mr Dwyer said: "Doggone it! That's a bit ruff."

Calamente Fork is for Twirling Spaghetti. That or it's a Klingon Weapon.

This unusually shaped Calamente fork has a sharp metallic "thumb" at its base designed for ... better spaghetti twirling! Either that or its a disguised dinner weapon of some sort.

Woman Rewards Her Teenage Girl With ... Cigarettes!

Having trouble with your rebellious teenage kid? Maybe discipline and punishments don't work, but according to this one mom, cigarettes work wonders:

Teenager Sam Holt's behaviour would leave most parents in despair - drinking, smoking, taking drugs and having sex. But the 13-year-old's mother thinks it is 'sweet' rather than shocking.

Tracy Holt even rewards her daughter with cigarettes on the rare occasions when she does behave.

Miss Holt, 43, knows Sam drinks but is just relieved that it's not more than a couple of cans of lager a night. And she decided not to get angry about her daughter losing her virginity at 12, instead insisting that Sam uses contraception.

Miss Holt, a jobless single mother with two other adult children, told Closer magazine: 'I don't see the point in punishing her. If I ground her, I'm just punishing myself because I have to put up with her in the house. Instead, I reward her good behaviour by giving her cigarettes. If she's bad, she goes without. She's a little comedian. I let her get away with a lot of cheek. It's sweet.'

I'm guessing that she's probably not in the running for "Mom of the Year" Award: Link

Light Blub by Pieke Bergmans

Pieke Bergmans created a series of LED lamps titled "Light Blub," poking fun at the incandescent light bulb:

And what exactly is a light blub? "The answer is simple," says the young Dutch designer. "It is a light bulb that has gone way out of line. Infected by the dreaded Design Virus, these Blubs have taken on all kinds of forms and sizes you wouldn't expect from such well behaving and reliable little products."

Single and Liking It!

Shaun Suhoski of Gardner, Massachusetts, is a single dad - and like a growing number of the 92 million single people in the United States - he likes it that way:

With the number of singles approaching nearly half the adult U.S. population, the single lifestyle is accepted more today than ever before, said Beatrice N. Niemi, executive director of the Center for Well Being in Fitchburg.

Ms. Niemi, who is also a relationship counselor, said the culture itself has changed. “It is more accepted in our culture now than it once was. Once upon a time, people found it harder to be happy if they were unmarried.”

With more ways to access people through the Internet, it is easier for single people to meet other people and stay connected, she said. Many people form relationships and bonds through e-mail.

“I think it is fundamentally a need we all have to connect with another human in some way, not just physically,” Ms. Niemi said. [...]

“Someday I would like to have a relationship again,” Mr. Suhoski said. “There are times when I could really use the support, and perhaps even the organizational skills, required for a better home life.”

On the other hand, the single lifestyle allows him to work late during the week and have personal freedom. “It’s a mixture. People always think the grass is greener when it comes to relationships,” he noted.

Yeti's Footprint?

A team of Japanese adventurers have claimed to find "yeti's footprint":

"The footprints were about 20 centimetres (eight inches) long and looked like a human's," Yoshiteru Takahashi, the leader of the Yeti Project Japan, told AFP in Kathmandu.

Seems like Yeti wears a size 3 shoes - pretty darned small for a mysterious ape! Link

Teaching Cha-Cha Lands Man in Jail

Whatever you do - do not, I repeat, do not teach the cha-cha in Plano. You may just land in jail for that:

Instead of dancing with the stars, Eric Rush is dancing behind bars. Teaching the cha-cha sent him to the slammer.

Last week, a Collin County district judge ordered Mr. Rush to serve 30 days in the county jail for contempt of court after violating an order prohibiting him from teaching dance lessons within 25 miles of a Plano dance studio.

The jail sentence is the latest step in a 10-month legal tango featuring a studio that says it's protecting its business and a former instructor who says he can't imagine life away from the dance floor.

The Stoner Age

Archaeologists Quetta Kaye and Scott Fitzpatrick have confirmed the long-suspected habit of prehistoric man: they used drugs!

They found ceramic bowls, as well as tubes for inhaling drug fumes or powders, which appear to have originated in South America between 100BC and 400BC and were then carried 400 miles to the islands.

While the use of such paraphernalia for inhaling drugs is well-known, the age of the bowls has thrown new light on how long humans have been taking drugs.

Scientists believe that the drug being used was cohoba, a hallucinogen made from the beans of a mimosa species.

Horse Got Head Stuck in Tree

Gracie the horse got a nasty surprise when curiosity got the better of her and she decided to check out a gap in a tree trunk:

The horse, called Gracie, was unable to free itself and could have been in danger were it not for a passer-by who was able to come to the rescue after he heard the horse whinnying .

Jason Harschbarger, a neighbour in the town of Pullman, West Virginia, USA, arrived at the scene which resembled the image of Winnie the Pooh getting stuck in the honey tree.

Mr Harschbarger collected his tools and was able to carefully set the horse free by using a chainsaw to slowly cut the wood around its neck.

However, before he did so, he was able to take a few photographs.

Me Cheeta

Cheeta, the oldest living chimp and Tarzan co-star, has "written" an autobiography of sorts titled "Me Cheeta" and fans are puzzled as to who actually wrote the thing:

In the book, Cheeta describes Rex Harrison, his co-star in Dr Dolittle, as "that marvellous light comedian", but then calls him a "universally despised, impotent alcoholic" who tried to murder him by getting him to fall out of a tree.

If Marlene Dietrich was a good German, writes Cheeta, "then the bad ones must be absolutely f***ing terrifying".

Find out who actually wrote it here: Link | Me Cheeta website

Brief History of Communication

Humans just want to talk to each other ... here's a fantastic stop-motion whiteboard animation by Kristofer Ström of Varelsen on the brief history of communication (Yes, it's an ad for carephonewarehouse.com but you've gotta see it!)

Most Creative Time: 10:04 PM

Got a bright idea? According to researchers, you're most likely to get that "Eureka" moment not early in the morning, but late at night:

EARLY to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise, so goes the old proverb. But it seems the advice holds little truth.
Research now suggests that if you want to be the wisest, you really need to stay up - well, until 10.04pm at least.

And the least creative time of the day?

The creativity drought just gets worse over the nine-to-five working day, hitting rock bottom at 4.33pm.

Wernher von Braun's Moon Rocket

When he's not busy designing rockets for Nazi Germany (and subsequently for the United States after he defected), Wernher von Braun liked to think about sending man to the moon. Here's a 1952 sketch of what von Braun thought a moon rocket would look like (it sold for $132,000 in an auction): Link - via Super Punch
