I agree, unfair. But I think the purpose of the video is to show that fencing is not just stabbing someone with a sword. When my 9 year old son started taking lessons, I was worried he'd think he could just hack and slash people, but we both learned there's a lot more strategy going on than someone with only a passing knowledge of fencing would think...
If you're going to do this properly, you should wrap just half your teeth and leave the other half untreated as a control for comparison. We'd like to see that followup photo.
Because it's easier to defeat those who are in a weaker position. The hiring managers would have just been replaced by others who would follow the mine owner's orders. And they may have been convicted of murder if they attacked white men.
If it weren't for the racism, they could have included the Chinese in the labor union. Whether that would have helped depends on the outside supply of labor, I guess.
A bit on searching on a slow Saturday morning resulted in the delightful site Yokai.com. It has hundreds of illustrated Yokai along with complete descriptions. I believe an invitation to make t-shirts is in order. Perhaps even a post of its own.
Read what I said. I said "some" research, not "serious" research. You're inflating what people say to comical proportions, which only creates strawmen.
No one is expecting you to do a dissertation. But if you claim to admire someone without having learned a little bit about who they are, you will get called out for being superficial. Personally, I think expressing passion for a person (or any topic) while being shallow about it, is far worse than being inconsiderate in the course of light-hearted fun.
And the only specific people I've imitated by costume are ones I've known personally and for whom I was reasonably sure they could take a joke. There are so many possible costumes out there, even with budgetary or other constraints, it is easy to have fun while simply avoiding obvious baggage.
Oh, and being quick certainly helps.
Ah, I need coffee in the morning!
