There's a book you might like about mitochondrial Eve called The Seven Daughters of Eve, by Bryan Sykes.

At this point it's kind of outdated, because it was written before we knew the extent of interbreeding between early human subspecies (Homo sapiens, neanderthals, and denisovans), but it's still worth the read. It will answer your questions.

When I was in high school, a former student posted a threat on an anonymous online message board that he was going to bring a gun and shoot everyone as we waited for classes to start. Some people thought it was preposterous that such a threat would be taken seriously, and in reality it turned out to be empty, but things like this make me wonder. As much as people say they're just trolls, at least some of the people who say these things really mean them.

That is so unfortunate! Apparently Venus fly traps are actually pretty difficult for amateurs to keep alive compared to other carnivorous plants like sundews or pitcher plants.

I used to have one, and they need to hibernate in order to survive. The second year I had it, I left it outside in the cold too long and it froze solid and never grew back.

sandyra, "geisha girl" costumes are considered stupid by East Asians (or really anyone who knows what geisha are). "Offensive" is a bit strong of a word, in my opinion, but being a geisha is a very highly skilled occupation that's like having a master's degree in performing arts. There's a loooooong history of various Asian design aspects being taken and mixed together incomprehensibly and then being served to Americans as a real representation of Asian culture. Sometimes this was done by immigrants who capitalized on ignorance, but more often than not it's people who know nothing about the culture or how silly they look.

Historically, geisha would entertain patrons in completely non-sexual and non-titillating ways. They would even perform in brothels for men waiting for the actual prostitutes. This is why we ridicule "sexy geisha" costumes.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying this is somehow "NOT ALLOWED" or anything. Just that there are valid reasons people don't like costumes like these, and if you want to be polite you should heed those reasons.

This is a great invention! It looks like those practise chopsticks that are connected at the top, which bends, so anyone can use them.

Personally, though, I feel a spoon on top would be slightly more useful.

These come off as being anti-politeness instead of pro-equality, as if men are the sole victims of the rude extraterrestrial slime-blobs known as "womankind."

For example, the first image seems to be saying NO ONE should hold doors, give up seats, and carry things, when it would be far more productive to say women should do those things too. In many parts of the world, they already do, but I guess that's inconvenient for their whine-fest.

The second image seems to be saying, "IT SHOULD BE OK FOR MEN TO HIT THEIR PARTNERS." Not "NO HITTING ANYONE."
