Redditors Reveal Their Worst Family Secrets

Image: cptnono

When Redditors open the floodgates on any thread full of "worst of" stories, as the old saying goes, "Katie bar the door." In other words, be prepared for reading Redditors' list of their "Most F*cked Up Family Secrets." While it always pays to take the absolute veracity of Reddit stories with a grain of salt, I have to hand it to a couple of these people: if their stories are fake, they may be the next Stephen King. Here are a few of the milder examples:

a_great_thinker:

“I was conceived at a swingers party and nobody in my family (who knows this) is completely sure my dad is my biological father. (How did I find out? Alcohol.)”

Sleeping Sheeperson:

“My grandmother got out of her bad relationship by running away with her husband’s brother. So some of my dad’s siblings are half-sibling, half-cousins.”

And the most frightening and shameful:

Rainman Zuckerberg:

“My dad has trouble signing into his AOL account.”

Brace yourselves for more of Redditors' most messed up family secrets here.

A Father Pauses His Daughter’s Wedding to Ask Her Stepdad to Help Give Her Away

Image: Delia D. Blackburn / Via deliasphotos.com

In this poignant story, an Ohio father moved everyone at the scene when he stopped in mid-aisle walk during his daughter's wedding to ask her stepfather to help him walk her down the aisle.

When Todd Bachman, father of bride Brittany Peck, stopped the ceremony, there was an awkward moment; none of the wedding party members or guests knew what was happening. Bachman turned to Peck's stepfather Todd Cendrosky and grabbed his arm. Wedding photographer Delia Blackburn said in an interview with BuzzFeed News,

“I think he said something along the lines of ‘You helped raise her.' There wasn’t a dry eye in the house."

Awaken This Cat, Face Demon Possession

If anyone is entertaining the thought of waking this cat in order to have access to the length of their bed, they had better place a call to an exorcist first. Via Tastefully Offensive

A few of these "before" photos are a testament to the horrible way that some humans treat animals. Thankfully, all of the "after" photos speak volumes about the wonderful impact that some people can have in the lives of such animals. These uplifting canine transformations not only show what a difference a good grooming can make, but also the spiritual difference evildent in the dogs' postures and expressions. Working Around Cats

(YouTube link)

Shorty and Kodi star in a video titled "A day in the life of every cat owner." I work at home, and have four cats, so what you see here is my life, and one of the reasons why I am always behind. You know how it is: They are all so darn cute, and each have their own need for attention and playtime and a warm lap.

But then add to that the fact that my kids have been out of school for almost three weeks now (the weather is better, but the pipes at the schools froze and busted), and I am barely treading water today. -via Daily of the Day

Dachshund and Disabled Cat Are Inseparable

(YouTube link)

It was a strange case that a healthy, well-fed Dachshund and a clean young disabled cat were found abandoned in a driveway in Florida. They appeared to be from someone's home, but no one claimed the pets from Seminole County Animal Services. The Dachshund is totally devoted to her cat friend, who has severe mobility issues. They were taken in by Jacqueline Borum, who named the dog Idgie and the cat Ruthie after best friends in the movie Fried Green Tomatoes. The two live together at Borum's business, Hollywood Houndz Boutique & Spa in Lake Mary. You'll find more of their story at the Orlando Sentinel. -via Laughing Squid

The Taekwondo Kid

Redditor erikhoof posted a set of portraits made when he was about ten years old. It was a brave move, as they are liable to become memes that will last forever.

Only time will tell which will become the most popular: the movie posters, the anti-bullying image macros, or the Nazi salute remixes (which aren't posted here, but you can find them in the comments). Continue reading to see some of the best so far.

The Cutest Hedgehog On Instagram

I don't even have Instagram, but I think I might join the site just so I can start following Darcy the Flying Hedgehog. This adorable little angel is pretty amazing, whether just lying around or posing for the newest holiday.

She also just has non-holiday adventures in her little hedgehog world, like playing with toy soldiers, the Hungry Caterpillar or even a hair brush. Darcy's owner is professional photographer Shota Tsukamoto, who says that he wants the little critter to feel like she is living out the life of a character in a children's book.

On a Distant Battlefield, Border Collies Stalk Each Other

Or they're just having fun. Watch as one collie comes up behind another, slowly approaching, step by step. Then his prey stands and seeks out his own victim, not knowing that the hunter is also the hunted. It's a heart-pounding contest of will, courage and patience.

Meet Vinicio Riva, the Disfigured Man Embraced by Pope Francis

Photo: CNN

You've probably seen the photo of Pope Francis embracing a disfigured man, whose body has been scarred by neurofibromatosis. The photo (below), which went viral, provoked an outpouring of sympathy for the man ... and sparked the hunt to find who he is.

CNN's Rome correspondents spent weeks trying to find and talk to him, and they've finally succeeded. Meet Vinicio Riva, the disfigured man embraced by the Pope:

"When he came close to us," [Vinicio's aunt] said, "I thought he would give me his hand. Instead he went straight to Vinicio and embraced him tightly. I thought he wouldn't give him back to me he held him so tightly. We didn't speak. We said nothing but he looked at me as if he was digging deep inside, a beautiful look that I would never have expected."

Vinicio, accustomed to stares of shock and fear, was initially confused by the pontiff's lack of hesitation. "He didn't have any fear of my illness," he said. "He embraced me without speaking ... I quivered. I felt a great warmth."

Ward's First Year

(vimeo link)

Ward Miles was born three and a half months premature. You'll first see him at four days old, the first time his mama Lyndsey got the chance to hold him. You can see her joy, fear, and sadness all at once as she cradles her super tiny son who is covered with tubes and monitors. But Ward was a fighter, and came home from the NICU a few months later, near his original due date (and on his mother's birthday). You can read more of his story at HuffPo.

Ward's father, filmmaker and photographer Benjamin Scot Miller, made this video of his first year as a birthday gift for Lyndsey the next year. You may want to have a hankie ready. -via Daily Picks and Flicks

Blind Puppy's Brother Is His Seeing Eye Dog

Jeffrey is blind in his left eye and mostly blind in his right. But his brother and best friend Jermaine can see clearly. So Jermaine guides his brother around and looks out for him.

(Video Link)

Both of them need a family. Jeffrey and Jermaine live at Operation Ava, a no-kill animal shelter in Philadelphia. To encourage some caring humans to step forward, Operation Ava hired Engagement Studios to produce this film about the pair.

Now here’s some great news: it didn’t take long for this video to produce a response. Many people turned in applications to adopt Jeffrey and Jermaine. The shelter staff is now reviewing them and checking references before deciding where the dogs will go.

Tyler Surprises His Teammates

(YouTube link)

Tyler Bain, a 7th grade student at Pine Tree Junior High School in Longview, Texas, was injured in a car wreck and has been confined to a wheelchair for ten years. He's a big football fan and is the manager of his school's 7th grade team, the Pine Tree Pirates. A month ago, he made the decision that he was going to walk in public for the first time at their final home game. When he told coach Paul Ellsworth his plan, the coach made him honorary team captain for the occasion.

Tyler said that none of his classmates on the team knew of his plans, and he walked to midfield of Pirate Stadium amid a roar of cheers from friends, family and teammates.

“I’m happy that I finally got to show what I can do,” Tyler said. “Even though I’m in a wheelchair, don’t go by what I look like. Go by what I have inside, a heart.”

Pope Francis Embraces Very Deformed Man

(Photo: Claudio Peri/Nacion)

(Photo: Claudio Peri/ANSA)

A week ago, we posted about Pope Francis's kindly response to a little boy interrupting his work. Anne Packrat Matthews commented, "I seriously love this pope." Jay Melo agreed and said, "Me too and I'm not even Catholic."

Nor am I, but I am likewise impressed with the way Pope Francis is handling his job. He drives an old car, playfully spins a boy who sits in his seat in the Popemobile and sacks a bishop who's living ostentatiously

On Wednesday, a man whose body has been disfigured by neurofibromatosis approached him. A lesser man might recoil in revulsion. But Pope Francis embraced him, kissed him and prayed with him.
