Storm Trooper Cake

Photo: Mike's Amazing Cakes

At Mike's Amazing Cakes they make some amazing cakes. You need proof? Just look at the amazing storm trooper cake above! I don't know which is better, this cake or the life-size storm trooper cake from last year. They are both pretty great, but the life-size one got to be eaten by 600 fans at a later date. Just saying Mike's Amazing Cakes, who is going to eat that cake?

Glass House Design

Photo: Carlo Santambrogio

This is one glass house I would not mind living in, the only rule is no stones allowed. The house is a conceptual design by milano-based designer and architect Carlo Santambrogio. These are actually pictures of a very good rendering and not a real house. Not yet anyway. The house above is part of his glass house series and this one in particular is designed to be a "snow house." The grid structure of the house is made to be modular and can be designed into almost any configuration.

In his "cliff house" design, the house is elevated over a thin sheet of water, making it's occupants feel like they are floating above the cliff.

Photo: Carlo Santambrogio

While these concepts are beautiful, I do have a few hang-ups. One, how scary would it be at night? Let's be real, it would be the darkest house ever. Two, using the restroom and shower would be no fun for anyone at all. Finally, glass is great when it's clean, but then again you have to keep it clean and that is a lot of glass.

What do our Neatoramanauts think? Would you live in one of these homes? View more photos here!

Baby Bender

Photo: 9Gag

Baby Bender may just be learning to bend, but that doesn't mean he isn't the cutest little Bender around. Unfortunetly, his best friend Timmy actually dressed up too but failed to make it into the picture. He was left just off camera right, dressed up in a crab costume and as the picture was being taken he could be heard muttering "why not Zoidberg?" Okay, maybe not. But it could have happened, who knows?

Eating and Drinking Only Starbucks for One Year

Photo: 1 Year of My Life

Beautiful Existence, a woman from Seattle, is going to eat and drink Starbucks for a year. Only Starbucks. I know what you may be thinking- is her name really Beautiful Existence, why Starbucks, why this challenge? Well I can tell you it is not a ludicrous marketing ploy and that she answers all this on her website, 1 Year of My Life.

Beautiful Existence? Is that your real name? The answer is YES, it is my real name.

So again, WHY? am I doing this challenge? Or WHY? will I do any challenge in the future? Because I LOVE being human and I LOVE the privilege of being able to ask the question WHY? in the first place! I love the question WHY? because sometimes I find that the answer leaves me with even more questions about life… and then, my circle starts all over again and I wouldn’t want my WHY? any other way.

She does a challenge every year, from living the Goodwill life to testing Parents Magazine on her real life family. Now the goal isn't to lose weight, just to complete the challenge, but so far she has already lost 3 pounds on the Starbucks diet and she is only two weeks in. Then again, she spends on average $18.79 dollars a day on food and drink. According to the USDA, women spend on average around $3,000 a year on groceries- if her current average holds she will spend just under $7,000. Well that just happens to be the price you pay to be cool- and to eat and drink Starbucks for an entire year apparently.

How to Speak Flanders

Photo: Awkward-Elevator

Nedward "Ned" Flanders, Jr. may be one of the most iconic neighbors in television history. The reoccurring character from The Simpsons is famous for his compassion, his evangelical spirituality, but maybe above all else the funny way he talks. You have to hand it to voice actor Harry Shearer and the writers of The Simpsons, they really have developed a vocabulary of their own.

Nate Smith of Awkward Elevator wondered what it would be like to speak Flanders and what better way to imagine that than through Google Translate.

25 Drunkest Cities in America

Photo: WikiMedia

From Milwaukee to Burlington, Vermont - what are the 25 drunkest cities in America? Researchers used three metrics to capture this, the average alcohol consumed per month by an adult, percent classified as binge drinkers, and percent classified as heavy drinkers. They pulled data from Centers of Disease Control and Prevention in each city. They then took the average drinks per month and weighted it 50 percent against binge drinking and heavy drinking (each 25 percent) to get their final ranking.

Find out where your city ranks on this curious list compiled by The Daily Beast.

Absinthe Cookie

Photo: A Fine Kettle of Ish

What may look like a typical mint cookie, is really a diabolical and possibly hallucinogenic absinthe cookie. Who wants one? Absinth has steadily been gaining traction as a popular drink since the beginning of the 1990s. It was originally banned from the US and many parts of Europe in 1915, somewhat rashly in retrospect. The claims of any real psychoactive properties have largely been exaggerated, and the drink is no more dangerous than any ordinary spirit.

The fine people over at A Fine Kettle of Ish have the perfect recipe to fill you craving for the mysterious liquid covered cookie. You don't even need that much to make it, just some standard cookie making ingredients, some high quality absinthe, and food coloring. Apparently it also goes very well with strong coffee.

Wanted: Colonists for The Red Planet Mars

Photo: Mars One

Want to live on Mars? Are you over 18 with good mental and physical health? Are you intelligent and would you be dedicated to space travel? Good news, you can be a Mars colonist! View all of the qualifications here.

Mars One is a Dutch nonprofit organization that is looking to establish a human settlement on Mars in 2023. You can watch their introduction film here. In the film they break down their plan for the eventual inhabitation of Mars, starting with four people at a time. While it may seem like a farfetched idea, the organization clearly believes in their plan.

Before the first crew lands, Mars One will have established a habitable, sustainable outpost designed to receive astronauts every two years. To accomplish this, Mars One has developed a precise, realistic plan based entirely upon existing technologies. It is both economically and logistically feasible, in motion through the integration of existing suppliers and experts in space exploration.

Part of their design includes major financing by creating "the biggest media event ever... ...Big Brother will pale in comparison." So it's Lost in Space meets The Truman Show? Well like a bad late 90's movie, I am just crazy enough to think this might work. Who is with me? This is finally a chance for our Neatoramanauts to become actual astronauts!

The Incredible Bubble Lake: Lake Abraham

Photo: Chip Phillips

Lake Abraham is a man-made lake on the North Saskatchewan River in western Alberta, Canada. Lake Abraham was created in 1972 and named after Silas Abraham, a nineteenth century resident of the Saskatchewan River valley.

The blue lake gets it's color from the rock flour, fine-grained particles of rock, as many glacier lakes do. More interestingly though, the lake gets it's bubbles from rising methane that forms in pockets as the lake freezes over for winter. It is a beautiful phenomenon to see.

You can check out a full gallery of Lake Abraham here.

How Blind People Use Instagram

Youtube Link

You would think things like blind people and Instagram would go together like eggs and ketchup. They shouldn't, it's just wrong- right? Here to prove you wrong is one of the most entertaining blind people around, Tommy Edison XP. Edison was born blind and has started a Youtube channel so that he can inform the masses of what the world is like through the mind of a blind person.

On his channel he talks about everything from describing colors to blind people, to the best things about being blind. My favorite line from Best Things About Being Blind?

I don't know from beauty... ...I know people from what comes out of their mouth and what's in their heart. That's how I know people.

Follow us on Instagram! You can find Tommy Edison's account here.

Charles the Labra-Lion

Youtube Link

Charles has a problem, Charles thinks he is a lion. Or rather other people seem to think he is a lion.

In Norfolk, Virginia people panicked when Charles got loose, they called the police saying a lion was running around town. A SWAT team was even called, and told to use deadly force if necessary. Little did they know Charles is really a fun-loving 4 year old labra-doodle with a funky haircut. Don't fret though, Charles was returned to his owner without incident. Why the haircut? Because Charles is the unofficial mascot for Old Dominion University, his owner calls his breed a "labra-lion."

Beertone

Photo: Beertone

Whether you are brewing it or drinking it, I think we can all agree that beer is awesome. To help you navigate that awesome Beertone had created this color matching guide so you can better identify the beers you love so very much.

A lot of ideas stay on paper or locked in some sideboard in the office. Not this time. With Beertone we are trying to bring to life a simple idea, a Beer Reference Guide (like the picture above) based on beer's color.

The bright beers will start the guide ending with the dark ones. Each Beer will be presented with picture, description and of course its color Information, RGB, CMYK, Web, SRM (that's the beer color scale). We are shooting each beer, bottle and the beer itself in a glass.

The reference guides are available for pre-order and with a few different options. Link

Get that Maker's Mark fancy-pants stuff out of here, after a tough day there is nothing that beats some good old Jack Daniel's Whiskey. Well maybe there is but for the purpose of this post there isn't. Beyond that, reproposed wood is also about the coolest thing since sliced bread. It can even be made into all like these handy dandy Jack Daniel's American White oak rings.

38 Cat-Tatts

Photo: Karvna

Some people are really feline the cat tattoos. I would not have thought so many great tattoos were pawsible but apparently they are as evident in this list of 38 Wonderful Cat Tattoos. You may laugh at the catastrophes that people have inked into their bodies, but get that cattitude out of here because these are some beautiful pieces of artwork.

What do you guys think? Which is the purrfect tattoo for you? Link

Larry Page's 1998 Business Card and One Expensive Mistake

Photo: Zestyping

It's 1998 and Larry Page hands you a flimsy business card printed on a home printer that reads Google! He tells you "we're hiring," and what do you do? You decide to go to graduate school instead. At least that is how the story goes according to Redditor Zestyping.

A post asked "What's the most expensive mistake you've made at work?" Well this certainly puts things in perspective, most people put down they broke expensive lab equipment or a break room refrigerator.

So let me ask this question to our Neatoramanauts, what's the most expensive mistake you've made at work? I'll start. I broke a computer once, accidently pushed it right off my desk onto the concrete floor, smashing it pretty spectacularly. Hey, at least I didn't turn down a job offer from Google.
