Even though "buying American" isn't any kind of answer to our problems, I'd still shop there. Maybe not for everyday consumables like paper towels, but durable goods? Why not.
It's one thing to be into body modification in the U.S., but I imagine it takes a special kind of courage (or whatever you'd like to call it) to be into it in Japan. I mean, just showing a tattoo is banned in many Japanese public establishments.
I doubt they're thinking about what their foreheads will look like in the future, but whatever. It's their bodies. People like this make the world more interesting.
I hate the examples of people who smoke, drink, and eat a pound of bacon every morning... and then they live to be 110.
If you ask my completely unscientific opinion, it's genetics. If you're going to live a long life (all else, such as diet, being equal), it's because that's your genetic inclination.
Just think of how much longer the 110 year old chain-smoking bacon-eater would have lived had he or she not spent years destroying his/her innards.
Likewise, the person in the documentary would be able to perform much better in the marathon had he not been smoking like a chimney. It's a waste.
So that begs the question; will a good diet and exercise actually "extend" your life... or will they just help you live up to your genetic potential?
Interesting, but the problem isn't with taxing the rich... although I'm sure many (rich people) would love to use this as an excuse to push for a slew of new/continued tax cuts.
No, the problem is with the "beyond your means," "too big to fail" attitude that tied up so much wealth in fundamentally shoddy financial tools in the first place.

I, for one, choose to side with the completely unbiased opinion of the person with the South Carolina confederate flag avatar. If there is a universal truth about Abraham Lincoln, surely it can be found in the Deep South; where hot-blooded extremism has historically taken a back seat to logic-tempered reasoning.
If only MY state had a flag that espouses the yearning for a simpler time when free speech reigned -- as long as that speech wasn't anti-slavery.

Just sayin'.
That's the only explanation I can provide for this story's existence.
Seriously, I've composed a mental essay filled with reasons why this "chase" did not play out as described. Brain power well spent.

Now, if that pool were filled with pancakes and syrup, you might have yourself a deal.
