1. CONSPIRATORS OF PLEASURE (Spiklenci Slasti)
Jan Svankmajer, Czech Republic - 1996
Svankmajer is a master of surrealism and a world-reference for stop-motion animation. Although this isn't one of his most known films, I consider it his masterpiece. With no dialogues (nor need for any), the characters never meet - still it crafts a synesthetic network where fetishes and desires are realized in a surprising manner. You could oversimplify it as a film about onanism, full of absolutely surreal sequences with Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony as soundtrack, but that wouldn't do it justice. Pure cinema at its best form.
