Continuing the parade of “dear god, make it stop!” inducing advertising for The Phantom Menace in 3D, a new animated commercial has emerged for Lipton Brisk Iced Tea that, I must admit, is beautifully animated and very cute.
There’s even a mobile app centered around the battle between Yoda and Darth Maul, which you can check out here. Now, why do I have the feeling that these ads are going to look a whole lot better than a 3d converted version of The Phantom Menace?

You’d think Yoda’s amazing Force powers would allow him to correct his speech impediment, especially when getting on everyones nerves it is. This cute Shoebox Cards illustration shows why the rest of the Star Wars gang are sick of Christmas caroling with the little green Jedi Master.
Apparently Nissin instant ramen noodles are Jedi Council approved, since Yoda has now come forward with his endorsement of the Cup Noodle. I can totally imagine Yoda sitting down in his cave on Dagobah to a hot cup of ramen noodles, they’re good for those cold swamp days.

BuzzFeed has a collection of 5 Star Wars pumpkins, but most of them are just death star pumpkins, which have been done over and over. On the other hand, this pumpkin Yoda is definitely worth a closer look. The artist, Joseph Y., even offers some advice on how he was made:
“Three pumpkins were used. One for the head, one for the body and one for the ears and hands. Attached parts with barbecue skewers and floral pins. Added plastic eyes and some old burlap for the robe. I used clay-sculpting tools and an X-Acto blade.”
Would you ever try your hand at something like this? Personally, I’m lucky if I can carve a scary face on my Jack-o-lanterns.
And you thought carrot Darth Vader was impressive – check out the rest of Chef Okitsugu Kado’s creations. Using white radish, sweet potato, pumpkin and more, the sushi chef has created everything from an AT-AT Walker to Yoda. And here I was all pleased with myself for making Star Wars pancakes a few weeks ago…
It’s not easy being green, and even Yoda is occasionally gripped with a bit of self-pity. Peter de Sève figures that the Jedi master and Kermit have a lot in common: they’re both puppets, green-skinned, and live in swamps. Link and Artist’s Website via reddit

That little cutie is Yoda, who has just been named World’s Ugliest Dog 2011 in the annual at the Sonoma-Marin Fair. She replaces last year’s chihuahua champ, Princess Abby.
The 14-year-old Chinese-crested Chihuahua mix has come a long way since since was found behind a block of flats by Nicole Schumacher.
Originally frightened out of her wits and under the impression the mangy-looking mutt was a rat she almost ran a mile.
But on closer inspection she soon discovered it was an abandoned dog in need of a good home and quickly took her in.
While it certainly isn’t the type of competition most people would want to enter their hounds into most of the dogs were keen to prove that ugly is the new good-looking and paraded around, proudly showing off their protruding tongues, buck teeth and hairless bodies.
Chihuahua’s appear to be firm favourites for the title of the ugliest dog as a pedigree Chinese crested won in 2008 and another Chinese crested and Chihuahua mix was named the ugliest in 2007.

When you order a pizza online, a lot of the places have a text area for you to include any special instructions you might have, like extra sauce or a code to get in to your apartment complex. When the blogger who writes for Awesome Robo got to this section on the Domino’s online order form though, he decided to ask for a drawing of Yoda riding a tauntaun. Surprisingly, the Domino’s staff was happy to oblige with this little doodle.

J.W. Rinzler, the author of the book The Making of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, notes that George Lucas wasn’t sure how the character Yoda could be portrayed on screen. One idea was to put a monkey in a Yoda costume:
At the time, animatronic technology wasn’t thought to be advanced enough to pull off Yoda.
So, in a solution that would make Karl Pilkington proud, they decided to try putting a trained monkey in a Yoda costume, including a full Yoda face mask. Rinzler showed a picture of the monkey on set, but he explained this idea was quickly abandoned when one of the people who worked on the primate scenes in 2001: A Space Odyssey pointed out “Look, the monkey’s just going to pull off the mask over and over again. It’s never going to work.”
You would have thought one wouldn’t need first-hand experience to know that, but the creative team decided to junk the idea and enlist Muppet mastermind Jim Henson to create the world’s first animatronic muppet. To show the extent of the character’s Muppet origins, Rinzler showed a photo of Yoda hanging out with Kermit and Miss Piggy in the swamps of Dagobah.

Long it has been since we last had a Caption Monkey game (sorry Adam!) I promise to be better, and thanks to Adam’s generous offer, we have an excellent prize for today’s game.
The game is simple: caption this cute "yoda"-eared hedgehog and win a custom black and white Monkey drawing by Adam "Ape Lad" Koford. Place your caption in the comment section – one caption per comment, please, though you can enter as many ones as you can think of.
So, in the immortal word of the Jedi master, may the Force be with you and good luck!
Update 6/10/09 – Adam has picked the winner! Congratulations to Mor who won with this caption: “Why did I have to choose a personal trainer who wouldn’t put me down until I finished all 50 sit-ups?!”
Maybe Debbie Goard of San Francisco’s Debbie Does Cakes got inspired by this other Yoda cake when she decided to make her own Star Wars pastry contribution.
Yoda’s head was made from rice krispies treats, modelling chocolate and fondant. I made the head a few days in advance. Just doesn’t feel right if I don’t have a disemboweled head staring at me throughout the week, lol! The body was made up of Rich strawberry cake with a Bavarian custard filling. The body was then covered in fondant and airbrushed.

We’ve previously seen Yoda appear as both a nutcracker and a backpack. Now the face of the wise and powerful Jedi master has ended up on a pizza.
