In
2012, and Keith Pariat is fighting for equal rights for men in Meghalaya,
India. You read that right: men. See, in that part of the world, women
rule:
Timothy Allen wrote the intriguing article over at the BBC: LinkMr Pariat, who ignored age-old customs by taking his father's surname is adamant that matriliny is breeding generations of Khasi men who fall short of their inherent potential, citing alcoholism and drug abuse among its negative side-effects.
"If you want to know how much the Khasis favour women just take a trip to the labour ward at the hospital," he says.
"If it's a girl, there will be great cheers from the family outside. If it's a boy, you will hear them mutter politely that, 'Whatever God gives us is quite all right.'"
There were a lot of plans in place for taking Hitler down (Captain America’s punch to the face notwithstanding) that never quite panned out. Among them, an inventive and elaborate scheme to turn the Fuhrer into a woman:
Cardiff University professor Brian Ford says he uncovered the plan while reviewing recently declassified documents for his new book, Secret Weapons: Technology, Science, And The Race To Win World War II.
British spies figured that if they could lace Hitler’s food with estrogen, over time he would become less cruel and aggressive, Ford says. The idea was to “feminize” Hitler, and make him behave more like his sister, Paula, a “mild-mannered secretary.” The Brits were encouraged by then-recent research into the effects of sex hormones in therapy. “There were agents who would be able to get it into his food,” Ford says, as quoted by The Telegraph. “It would have been entirely possible.”
No one ever put the plan into action, probably because it was crazy–just like some others highlighted in this article over on The Week. Link

A pizza habit and a concerned delivery driver are being credited for saving an elderly woman’s life.
Every day for the last three years, Jean Wilson has called her local Domino’s pizza place. She always orders a large pepperoni pizza. Suddenly she stopped calling.
Jean’s regular pizza delivery driver, Susan Guy, became very concerned and went to check on her. Susan knocked on the door and banged on the window of Jean’s house. She even went and talked to neighbors. Finally she called the police.
Guy quickly called 911. When police arrived, the broke down the door to Wilson’s home, and found her lying on a floor inside.
They soon learned that Wilson had fallen on Saturday, and couldn’t get over to a telephone to call for help. Investigators said it’s possible that her pizza-only diet may have saved her life.

An Israeli woman paid $32,000 for the entire Business Class of an El Al flight to allow her dog (and an accompanying vet) to fly with her. She told reporters any price was worth it to keep her pet free from the stress of cargo travel:
“All that mattered to me was to have my baby with me during the flight so that I can take care of him.”
El Al told the Haaretz newspaper in Israel it had never had such a request before. “But after the lady explained her special relationship with her dog and expressed her willingness to pay extra in order to fly with him, we agreed.”
