A Tron Cycle For Your Favorite Kiddo

Posted by Jill Harness in Baby & Kids, Entertainment, Film, Living, Science Fiction on August 25, 2011 at 2:20 am

This Tron Light Cycle scooter just might be the ultimate kid’s toy for those aspiring to raise their children with proper reverence for all things geek. I don’t know about you guys, but I wish I had one when I was a youngster. Unfortunately, it’s only a concept at this point, but let’s hope it moves in to production soon.

The Tron Legacy Light Cycle For Real

Posted by Phil Haney in Entertainment, Film, Gadgets, Hacks & Mods on August 17, 2011 at 4:47 pm

For the small sum of 55 thousand dollars you can own a replica, drivable Light Cycle from the movie Tron: Legacy. Would you buy this?

This is the illuminated, street-legal motorcycle inspired by the computer animated cycle from the 2010 film Tron: Legacy. Designed for casual cruising and slow ride-bys at shows, it is made from a steel frame covered by a fiberglass cowling that replicates the sleek look of its computer-generated imagery counterpart. Electroluminescent strips built into the tire cowlings, wheel rims, and body illuminate the cycle. It is powered by a fuel-injected Suzuki 996cc, 4-stroke engine. Riders lay at a near-horizontal position astride the padded leather seat, with feet on foot pegs that control its 6-speed constant mesh manual transmission and hands on the handlebars for throttle and braking. The hubless wheels are former truck tires built up then custom-shaped to fit onto one of two counter-rotating rims spinning within each other, providing the broad-tired authenticity of the computer cycles from the movie.

Some of you might remember the TRONified Films entry that was posted here at Neatorama last year. One of those video clips was inspired by “The Big Lebowski”, the popular Coen brothers comedy from 1998. Here’s a new video, were they have taken this mashup concept one step further.

Tron Wars

Posted by The Dude in Film, Science Fiction, Video Clips on January 31, 2011 at 5:55 pm

(YouTube link)

Tron and Star Wars: two classic sci-fi film franchises. Both were considerably better a few decades ago, yet are fueled by such creative ideas – not to mention rabid fans – that they remain eternally awesome, Jar-Jar be damned. We’ve seen countless Star Wars mash-ups, and not a few Tron mash-ups, so it’s actually rather amazing that this is the first Tron: Legacy/Star Wars combo we’ve seen to date, given how much they have in common thematically. Paging daddy issues, party of two!

Well, enterprising YouTube user kevfleth has risen to the challenge, and the results are pretty spectacular.  So come, enter the grid! Or turn to the Dark Side! Or, ya know – both is good, too.

Family Guy on the Grid

Posted by The Dude in Comics & Cartoons, Film, Science Fiction, TV on January 28, 2011 at 12:03 am

We’ve seen Tron variant comic covers, we’ve seen Tron/Street Fighter mash-ups, and God help us yesterday we saw Ozzy Osbourne and Justin Bieber in Tron outfits for some reason.

So it’s high time we saw the Griffins – old-school Tron fans themselves, after all – Tron-ified.  The Joe-Cycle is the icing on the cake.

Awesome TRON Posters by Eric Tan

Posted by Alex in Art, Film, Pictures on January 21, 2011 at 12:28 am

Eric Tan created these pair of TRON posters, showcasing the classic TRON movie and the new TRON: Legacy that was just released. Eric said:

“When creating posters for each of the ‘Tron’ films, what immediately came to mind were the parallels between the
two worlds and how it had progressed over the years. Since similar elements such as disks, light cycles, and recognizers exist in both, I thought showing the contrast between new and old was a visually interesting angle to play up. Linking the two main characters was something I thought would add to the storytelling and the father/son dynamic between Kevin and Sam Flynn. To me, those films are amazing examples of visual ‘candy,’ and I hope I was able to capture that in my posters.”

The limited edition poster was sold out in like seconds, but you can still gawk at the larger pics here: Link

This bag doesn’t reflect light -it produces its own light! The secret is electro luminescent wire and batteries. Ladyada and Becky Stern used the wire to make a Tron-flavored messenger bag. Once you get the technique down, you can use electro luminescent wire to spice up any clothing or fabric items. Complete instruction and a video will show you how. Link -via Lifehacker

Tron-O-Rama

Posted by David in Neatorama Exclusives on October 6, 2010 at 4:46 pm

I’m old enough to remember the original TRON, released in the early 80s. I was so into the movie, I went out and bought every gaming console that had any cartridges TRON-related. One of my favorites was Intellivision’s TRON Deadly Discs, which takes place on the famous TRON game grid:

Of course, with the upcoming, highly anticipated release of the sequel, TRON Legacy, the game grid is very much on many peoples’ minds these days. Perhaps none more so than the good folks over at WonderHowTo.com, who’ve just bestowed on us the greatest honor a blog can receive; yes, they’ve named a sexual position after us. It’s called the Neatorama (Difficulty Level 3!)and is actually SFW if you want to check out the fun video below. Thanks WHT! We’re deeply humbled.

Glowing Tron Themed Nintendo

Posted by marcmywords in Toys on June 2, 2010 at 6:47 pm

YouTube user Thretris modified an original NES with a custom Tron paintjob, and stuffed in some new hardware. Skip to minute 2 to avoid the technical stuff.

This NES has been custom painted using a hand mixed airbrush paint with glowing powder. The paint job not only glows BRIGHTLY in black light, but it charged and stays glowing on its own. The console also has NESmod installed which acts a dual mono “stereo” mod with boosted sound from an additional PCB with amplified audio.

Thretris has also customized a Gameboy.
