When I moved into my new apartment all I got were a bunch of child proof locks on all the cabinets that I had to disassemble. Why not leave a little time capsule for future tenants of your dwelling to discover? Here you can download a template to print out and affix to the inside of light switches in your home. Presumably the next time they replace the light switch they will discover your note. Do you think someone would discover these hidden notes or would a future electrician simply toss it aside without noticing?
The officials of Kimberly, Wisconsin buried a time capsule 25 years ago with plans to dig it up to commemorate the town’s 100th anniversary in 2010. The time has come, but no one knows where that time capsule is!
The time capsule held coins, news clippings and a bottle of New Coke in a 2-foot-long piece of white PVC pipe. It was buried near the municipal building in 1985.
However, the time capsule had to be dug up in 1997 when the building complex was remodeled.
Kimberly street commissioner Dave Vander Velden says it’s not clear where — or even if — it was reburied.
They’re now using a metal detector to look for it. Link -via the Presurfer
Upon his death, Mark Twain left behind 5000 pages of an autobiography that included a hand-written note stating that the memoir was not to be published until 100 years after his death.
Now that we’ve reached that deadline, the publishing is beginning, and his estate has split the pages into a trilogy, the first volume of which is coming soon.
Scholars are divided as to why Twain wanted the first-hand account of his life kept under wraps for so long. Some believe it was because he wanted to talk freely about issues such as religion and politics. Others argue that the time lag prevented him from having to worry about offending friends.

Time capsules have been used for centuries in one form or another – to hide the tombs of Egyptian Kings and to keep histories past living on.
One of the most celebrated time capsules is the Crypt of Civilization at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia:
For centuries, civilizations have found ways to leave clues into their past. One such example is the Crypt of Civilization, which was a sealed airtight chamber located at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia.
Thornwell Jacobs (1877–1956), referred to as “the father of the modern time capsule,” was inspired to construct the crypt after the openings of the Egyptian Pyramids and tombs in 1920. “He was struck by the scarcity of historical information available from these ancient civilizations and imagined having a “running story” of the customs of human life from beginning to the 1930′s modern culture. Jacobs noted that 6,177 years had passed between when the Egyptian calendar was established in 4241 BC and the present year (1936 AD). This figure served as the rationale for setting the opening of the crypt for 8113.”
