Come for the reference to popular building bricks LEGO, stay for the graphic animated violence that makes bricks fly like never before. LEGO Captain America may be the most badass incarnation of the Marvel Comics character ever created, and that’s saying a lot since he’s been kicking tail in the comics since the 40s. Warning: Scenes of intense violence against toys ahead!

In his Republic, presents an allegory of the value of philosophy and the nature of knowledge that is popularly known as Plato’s Cave: to the unenlightened mind, the world is filled with confusing ideas, like shadows on the wall of a cave, that only reflect truths not yet discerned. Michael Ramsey’s stop-motion animated presentation of this story won first place at the USA Film Festival Short Film and Video Competition in 2008.

Wolfgang Matzl selected images from Victorian prints, put them on paper, and presented this rather original stop motion animated summary of Inception. It was his entry in a contest which asked filmmakers to create a movie no more than sixty seconds long.

I’m not sure I have the coordination to create a Lego sphere and I don’t know what I’d do with one once I made it. Bouncing or kicking it would be out of the question but it might make a nifty sculpture.
The Three Girls is a stop-motion animated movie by Laura Seymou, a six-year old girl, and Angela Sheehan, her adult sister. It’s like Axe Cop, except that the child did all of the drawing. Sheehan writes:
This is a stop-motion collage I made, based on drawings by my little sister (six years old at the time). Back in 2005, I was studying animation and taking classes in childhood development/learning and wanted to combine the two. I decided to make a movie with her over Thanksgiving break. I gave her some paper and crayons and asked her to write me a story. I took some video of her drawing and showing her grandparents the story and describing it to them. It was fun to see how she told the story differently to each person and all the little details she included when asked about different parts of the drawings. Back at school, I scanned her drawings in and printed out copies that I then animated to her narration. My dorm room was a giant mess of paper and a camera for about a week. It was a blast. I showed her the finished product over my winter break and she loved it. I would’ve loved to involve her more in the actual animation process, but my school was too far away.

Filmmaker Noah Flangian of Tullahoma, Tennessee and his father assembled a Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle, but used stop-motion animation to depict the bike spontaneously assembling itself. Flangian claims that the project took thirty hours to complete and that the motorcycle engine started on the first try.

This one-minute stop motion video appears to be a Portuguese-language commercial for a fruit juice brand available in Brazil (Google Translator version). It’s a trippy depiction of moving wafer cookies that form a piano.

Google’s Japan division released this stop motion film explaining (in a rather fanciful way) how Street View works. It features a cute little robot puttering around town, taking film photographs and painting over license plate numbers with a marker. The video is part of an effort to make the practice less appear less invasive of individuals’ privacy.

Brazilian artist Breno Pineschi of Hardcuore had a little fun with this Suco de Laranja (orange juice) video clip. All you need to make a funky electronic music are fresh oranges, some melba toast and a dash of humor.

This music video by Oren Lavie, "Her Morning Elegance," shows how much fun you can have in bed with stop-motion animation.
From Oren’s MySpace page:
*The video was shot all stills – roughly 3225 still photos for the entire video, using one camera, hanging from the ceiling for the main body of the movie.
* It took 4 weeks before shooting to create an animated computer generated storyboard for the video, with 3d dummies for the characters.
* It took only 2 days of shooting for the live actors on set to re-create the 3.5 minutes computer sequence, frame by frame.
* Some of the bed sheets used in the video were taken from Oren’s own bedroom and are now considered collectors items, worth at the moment not very much and therefore used as bed sheets.
* Each of the wonderfully talented people above have worked on the video for a fraction of their normal rates (except Oren who worked for his normal rate of zero).
Don’t worry, completely safe for work (this is Neatorama, after all).
