Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert is busy highlighting the absurdities of our political election system by participating in it. He is no longer a candidate for president, so he has retaken control of his legally-obtained Super PAC (political Action Committee). He filed a report just after midnight this morning with the Federal Election Commission on the Super PAC’s fundraising, which has exceeded all expectations. The cover letter reads:
Dear Sirs and Sirettes,
Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow (ABTT) would like it entered into the record that as of January 30th, 2012, the sum total of our donations was $1,023,121.24.
Stephen Colbert, President of ABTT, has asked that I quote him as saying, ”Yeah! How you like me now, F.E.C? I’m rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain’t one!”
I would like it noted for the record that I advised Mr. Colbert against including that quote. Sincerely,
Shauna Polk Treasurer Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Inc.

You may be aware that comedian Stephen Colbert has formed his own political action committee in order to mock the system. Now however some people are taking him very seriously.
The Colbert Super PAC may be a stunt, but it has the imprimatur of the Federal Elections Commission: “Mr. Colbert may establish and operate the committee. The committee may solicit and accept unlimited contributions from individuals, political committees, corporations, and labor organizations,” its ruling in June read. Just in case people didn’t get the joke about the razor-thin line between parody and politics, Salvatore Purpura, the treasurer of Mr. Colbert’s Super PAC, quit last week to take a job — as treasurer of Mr. Perry’s campaign.

LEGO artist/designer Nathan Sawaya, known for his life-sized LEGO sculpture of Conan O’Brien and amazingly detailed gray brick version of Mount Rushmore, has unveiled his newest brick-terpiece: a bust of Stephen Colbert! Check out these and other awesome LEGO sculptures at the link.

I’m sure most of you are aware of the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, as hosted by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I’ll leave the political pontifications to other sites, and focus on the very, very funny posters pool at Flickr.
Scientists have named a newly discovered species of beetle, Agaporomorphus colberti, in honor of humorist Stephen Colbert.
One of the outstanding features of the species is the genitalia of the males. “This new species is similar to members of a clade within the genus exemplified by A. knischi…and unique in having similar, extremely complicated male genitalia…”
