This Backpack Brings The Booming System With You

Posted by Zeon Santos in Entertainment, Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Living, Music, Science & Tech on December 9, 2011 at 9:23 pm

I know the latest trend in audio is to put speakers into clothing wherever possible, but this backpack speaker unit, complete with 8-inch woofer, seems like overkill. For one thing, it can’t be good for the ears of whoever wears the thing. Then there’s the fact that no one will want to be anywhere near you when this thing kicks off.

But if you need to have your theme music with you at all times, say while running from the cops or rappelling off a building, then this booming bag has got your back.

This Robot Is Wired For Sound

Posted by The Nag in Art on November 28, 2010 at 1:40 pm

Artist David Todd Trost created this 4 foot tall terra cotta robot with a speaker system inside. I’m not sure what the sound quality is like but it’s much better looking than the giant faux woodgrain speaker boxes of my youth.

Modern loudspeakers are usually very sleek and futuristic-looking – so it’s quite refreshing to see these pair of speakers by Israeli designer Sruli Recht, as commissioned by Joey Roth.

Bandai Diorama Speaker

Posted by Alex in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Music, Pictures, Travel on February 2, 2009 at 1:20 am

My hat is off to the folks at Bandai – the Japanese toymaker has created a speaker with a diorama of Tokyo’s Ginza district, back in the days (like 1955, dudes). Behold, the Bandai Diorama Speaker:

The 2×1W speaker comes with moving parts, sound effects and a bunch of LED lights. Only 2000 copies have been made and the price is ¥198,000 (about $2,200 USD).
