Beer + Popcorn = Pub Corn

Posted by Stacy in Food & Drinks on March 5, 2009 at 10:09 pm

I like beer, and I like popcorn, but I’m not sure I like the two of them together. As in, mixed together. University of Missouri senior Cary Silverman saw some kids sneaking liquor into a movie theater and a light bulb went off in his head: popcorn and alcohol hybrid! After some experimenting, he struck on the idea of making flavored coatings and brushing each piece of popcorn with it. As a result, you can now get beer, Pina Colada and Irish Creme-flavored popcorn. At least it’s not bacon-flavored… I know some of us are getting a little overdosed on the bacon-flavored everything.

Vintage Cereal Boxes

Posted by Stacy in Blog & Internet, Food & Drinks on January 6, 2009 at 8:10 pm

Nostalgic for your childhood? No doubt The Imaginary World’s vintage cereal box gallery will conjure up images of Saturday morning cartoons and massive sugar rushes. And even if you were more of the oatmeal type, some of the boxes are at least pretty interesting to look at. Does anyone remember Sir Grapefellow cereal? I’ve never heard of it, but “grape flavored oat cereal” doesn’t sound too appealing to me. And be sure to check out “Grins and Smiles and Giggles and Laughs.”

New Year's Sparkling Wine Recommendations

Posted by Stacy in Everything Else, Food & Drinks on December 29, 2008 at 8:03 pm

I know next to nothing about champagne or sparkling wine, but I do know I’d like to have a bottle that costs more than $3.99 for my little gathering. But not much more than that. Luckily, Slashfood has my back. They have rated eight brands of bubbly of varying tastes and low price points, so if you are as clueless as I am, you should find this helpful. They even have a bottle of champagne sparkling wine that tastes decent and costs, yes, $4.

How to Make Homemade Marshmallows

Posted by Stacy in Food & Drinks on December 11, 2008 at 10:24 am

The folks over at Slashfood are giving their readers a recipe gift every day leading up to Christmas. They’ve had some really yummy ones – I’m definitely going to have to try out these Peanut Butter Fudge Krispy Treats at some point this season. But the one I’m really intrigued by is the make-your-own-marshmallows recipe. They seem easy enough, and they definitely look tastier than the ones you buy at the store. Have any of you ever made your own marshmallows? Is it worthwhile?

Fruits vs. Vegetables: The Deathmatch

Posted by Stacy in Food & Drinks on December 3, 2008 at 9:20 pm

Think you know your fruits from your veggies? Slashfood doesn’t think so. Take their quick quiz – just scribble your answers down on a scrap piece of paper or remember them in your head. I have to admit, I did worse than I thought I would. Photo via Wikipedia user Gpics.
