sKate Bush is the namne of a Tumblr blog dedicated to posting photoshopped images of the English singer-songwriter Kate Bush riding a skateboard. The site is quite new, so there aren’t that many photos up yet, but hopefully the collection will grow over time.

A House Fit For Skaters

Posted by Alex in Architecture, Pictures on July 29, 2011 at 12:57 am

What kind of a house would you build for a pro skateboarder? A skateable one, of course!

Here's what Los Angeles-based architect Francois Perrin and designer Gil Lebon Delapointe did for Pierre Andre Senizergues, a former world skateboard champion:

The house is divided into three separate spaces. The first one includes the living room, dining area and kitchen, the second one includes a bedroom and bathroom and the third one a skateboard practice area. Each space is skateable as the ground becomes the wall then the ceiling in a continuous surface forming a tube of a 10ft diameter.

The furniture is also skateable, whether it is integrated in the curve like the sitting area, the kitchen or the bathroom or just as standing object like the dining table, the kitchen Island or the bed. Closets and drawers could be integrated in the curve too.

The PAS house is the first house to be entirely used for skateboarding as well as being a traditional dwelling. It is the ultimate dream for generations of skateboarders who wanted to bring their practice into their home.

A Skaters Dream Home

Posted by Robert Birming in Design on July 15, 2011 at 11:30 am

(Video link)

The PAS House concept takes a modern home and mixes it with a skateboard ramp.

Imagine a city of the future where skateboards are used as the primary form of transportation and recreation – in and out of your home. A utopia city for skateboarders would mean that a skateable path, like a ribbon connecting everything together, links each building in an unending ability to keep in motion on your board.

Hack Job: Make Your Own Skateboard

Posted by Alex in Art, Pictures on September 4, 2010 at 8:37 am

Jeff Hamada of the art blog Booooooom.com (that’s seven o’s – I counted) has a pretty nifty "Hack Job" contest going on. You have till Sept 10 to submit your own skateboard-design. It doesn’t have to actually function as a skateboard, only to look like one:

"It’s pretty much just taking junk or random materials and turning it into skateboards," Hamada told AOL News. "I want to see people be creative."

Submissions for the "Hack Job" contest already include an homage to pain in skateboarding, featuring a Band-Aid as a board and two pills for wheels, a classic submission made by an adolescent skater who bolted wheels to a 2-by-4 and a business-themed entry in which a contestant turned his laptop into a board and photographed himself skating in business attire.

This one above, the banana skateboard, was the brainchild of Brian Tellock.

The Skateboarding Priest

Posted by Alex in Religion, Sports on August 20, 2010 at 2:12 am

45-year-old Hungarian Roman Catholic priest Reverend Zoltan Lendvai has a unique way to connect with young people: he teaches scripture on a skateboard!

Lendvai says he follows the ways of Saint John Bosco, an Italian priest and educator in the 19th century who dedicated his life to improving the lot of poor youngsters and used games as part of their education.

"Many times I have felt that this is the way I can bring many people a bit closer to Jesus," he told Reuters.

He learned the skills of skateboarding at the age of 14 at school but it was only later, when he served as a priest in the town of Kormend in northwest Hungary, that he realized the impact his skill could have on youngsters.

And that’s no ordinary skateboard:

His first board bore the papal coat of arms and he has since given away at least six to his young parishioners.

Cannonball: Skating the Recession Pools

Posted by Miss Cellania in Home & Garden on July 12, 2010 at 5:27 am

There are a lot of houses under foreclosure in Fresno, California, and many have cement ponds swimming pools that are currently empty. Instead of letting all that surface go to waste, skateboarders use the pools to test their skills, as we see in the short documentary Cannonball: Skating the Recession Pools by vimeo user California is a place. NSFW language. Link

iPad: Will It Shred?

Posted by Johnny Cat in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Sports, Video Clips on May 6, 2010 at 2:54 pm

New iPad Test – Will It Shred? from FUEL TV on Vimeo.

Those of you madly competing for a free iPad may want to skip this, as one of the fine print warnings states: “May void warranty and cause geeks to cringe.”  Jeff King and Chad Knight ordered one, and promptly turned it into a mini-skateboard. The question then needed an answer: Will it shred?

Bulldog Loves Skateboarding

In 2007, Tillman the bulldog amazed the world with his video of him riding a skateboard around a park, just as naturally as you please.  Apparently the dog is still refining his moves, via Tony Hawk’s video game.  (Obviously, he’s not playing the game, but he’s definitely into it.)  More videos of Tillman snowboarding, surfing, and of course, skateboarding can be found here.  Tillman’s website.

Man Stabbed Self to Hide Skateboarding Accident

Posted by Alex in Crime & Law on November 4, 2009 at 1:37 pm

Aaron Siebers, 27, had a problem. He was skateboarding one afternoon, fell, and ripped his Blockbuster-issued khakis. Worried about getting "written up," Aaron hatched a criminally (not so) brilliant plan:

Instead of just calling in sick, he stabbed himself in the leg and showed up at work claiming to have just been attacked by three Hispanic males. Siebers, who told cops he was assaulted as he walked toward the Blockbuster in Edgewater, had a deep stab wound in one leg and several other minor cuts on his face and stomach. As investigators began hunting for the assailants, they reviewed surveillance video from outside a Target store where Siebers claimed the attack occurred. The footage, however, showed no such assault. Confronted by cops, Siebers, pictured in the below mug shot, admitted that he had stabbed himself. He told investigators about the skateboarding accident, the resulting ripped pants, and how "he did not want to lose his job so he stabbed himself in the leg," according to an arrest affidavit sworn by Officer Shawna Naumann.

Dog-Powered Scooters

Posted by Alex in Animals & Pets, Auto & Transportation on December 28, 2008 at 3:09 pm

Neatorama reader Mark Schuette told us of his invention: a new mode of transportation powered by … dogs!

Though dog mushing is an old sport, Mark’s new twist lets you have your own urban Iditarod on a dog-powered scooter, trike, or skateboard.

LinkThanks Mark!

Hey, it’s a win-win scenario. It’s exercise for the dogs and fun for you (Better than this form of doggie exercise!)
