Street Sweeper Simulation Is The Epic Fail Of Video Games

Posted by Zeon Santos in Blogs & Internet, Entertainment, Gaming, Pictures, Society & Culture on October 9, 2011 at 3:34 am

Who knew that driving a street sweeper all over town, cleaning streets and stuff, wouldn’t make for a good video game? Probably everyone who has ever played a video game and doesn’t work as a street sweeper. Heck, I’d venture to guess that even a professional street sweeper wouldn’t want to go home and play a game involving street sweeping!

So, the question I have as an avid gamer is this- how do these awful video games keep getting made and released upon an unsuspecting public? My guess is an anti-video game conspiracy bent on turning gamers against their favorite pastime. Stop shaking your cane at me!

Science videos have never looked so cool, thanks to the introduction of 3d visual effects and simulations that make the scientific process geeky fun to watch. Whether you understand what’s happening in each short film or not, the visuals are mind blowing and quite beautiful to watch. You can see all 10 videos over at Wired.

Microsimulation of Road Traffic

Posted by David in Auto & Transportation on March 27, 2008 at 11:51 am

MicrosimulationThis is a bit old, but I just discovered it this weekend, so it’s new to me: Over at Dresden’s Institute of Technology, they have an applet which performs a microsimulation of road traffic. While this sounds about as fun as sitting in regular traffic, it actually has a “Sims”-type feel to it, meaning that there is a great amount of enjoyment to be had from the process of making all the (simulated) people in these little cars late for dinner, then releasing them from the perils of gridlock.

The idea of traffic engineering has always fascinated me. While this doesn’t explain any of the concepts behind it, I think it shows that there’s a little bit more to traffic than just the chaos and randomness we think there is.
