Wildlife photographer Markus Varesvuo snapped this amazing picture of a herring gull attacking an eagle. Gulls often join together to drive predators away from breeding grounds, but sometimes solitary gulls do the dirty work, too. For the greatest impact, they swoop in from above and behind a bird of prey.

For some reason, possibly to achieve a viral video, this guy puts his GoPro camera down on the ground, running. The temptation was too much for a seagull in Cannes, France. It snatched the bait and took off, saying “Mine. Mine. Mine.” There is no information on how he got the camera back. -via Metafilter

Is this a scene from Finding Nemo? Or Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds? No, this bird was caught absconding with a piece of lunch on Google Street View, specifically on John Street in Brighton, England. Link -via reddit
The video documents a seagull “dancing” to bring earthworms to the surface. When humans do this, it’s called “worm-charming” or “worm-grunting.” Wood turtles also use this technique, by repeatedly bumping their carapace against the ground.

Nothing could stop veteran news anchor Peter Hitchener of Australia’s Channel Nine News from delivering a serious bit of news. Not even a giant sea gull walking up behind him:
Ever the professional, the news stalwart only mildly flinched on
noticing the seagull but later told 3AW radio the studio cameramen hid
behind their cameras to hide their laughter.
"I was reading
away, and it was a serious story, and I suddenly thought, ‘Oh my gosh
that seagull’s back again’, because we had bit of a problem last
night,” Hitchener said.
"About 50 seconds to 6 o’clock this
seagull arrived and started pecking at the camera and it had the
beadiest huge eyes you’ve ever seen in your life.”
