Metropolitan Etiquette Authority: Mind Your Manners Signs Around New York

Posted by Alex in Pictures, Travel on September 10, 2011 at 2:08 pm

New York artist Jay Shells got tired of the rude manners of fellow New Yorkers and decided to take matters into his own hands. He created official-looking etiquette signs around Manhattan, under the guise of the "Metropolitan Etiquette Authority."

Due to his fashion choices, a beer thief in Florida got away, but not with the beer:

Surveillance video shows a man rushing from the EZ food store in Lake Wales, trying to steal two cases of beer.

But his pants were too droopy, he tripped, and the beer went everywhere.

He jumped into the back of a Chevy Malibu and the driver took off.

Fashion Police Thwarted: Sagging is Legal

Posted by Alex in Crime & Law, Fashion on August 1, 2010 at 1:17 pm

It may look ridiculous, but in the United States, it’s protected by the Constitution. That’s right, folks! Sagging – the strange customs of wearing one’s pants below one’s waist (and sometimes butt) is legal:

You have the right to look ridiculous.

A Bronx judge has thrown out a summons issued against a Bronx man for wearing saggy pants, finding that "the Constitution still leaves some opportunity for people to be foolish if they so desire."

Judge Ruben Franco said that although Julio Martinez may have offended the fashion police with his low-hanging and underwear-exposing pants, his manner of dress didn’t deserve a ticket from a cop.

"While most of us may consider it distasteful, and indeed foolish, to wear one’s pants so low as to expose the underwear . . . people can dress as they please, wear anything, so long as they do not offend public order and decency," the judge wrote.

Pull Up Your Pants Day

Posted by Alex in Fashion on March 26, 2009 at 2:50 pm

Teachers Diana Carter and Dona McKenzie are fed up with their students wearing clown trousers – y’know, pants that sag to their bums – so they came up with this: "Pull Up Your Pants Day."

Following in the footsteps of President Obama, who last year told MTV that "brothers should pull up their pants," the school is encouraging kids to hide the underwear and hike up their trousers.

The day was devised by two teachers, Diana Carter and Dona McKenzie, who had become frustrated with the low-hanging look in the school’s hallways. The two even managed to get a Pompano Beach Wal-Mart to donate belts for teachers to hand out to offenders.

"The young men need to be educated based upon where it originated from, which it came from our prisons," McKenzie said. "They need to be aware of how they’re looking when they’re out and walking around, how people perceive them."
