Chihuahua Smuggled in Luggage

Posted by Miss Cellania in Animal, Odd News on October 24, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Customs officials at the Dublin Airport at first thought the x-ray showed a toy dog in the suitcase, but they opened it up and out popped a live puppy! A Bulgarian man on a flight from Madrid was trying to smuggle the young chihuahua.

It is understood the dog was being smuggled in as a gift for someone.

Legally, dogs must have clearance and a health certificate before being brought into the country.

The animal, which Mr Broni said seemed tired but unharmed, was handed over to Department of Agriculture officials where it was placed in quarantine.

The man was not detained, but a file is being compiled on the case. Link -via Unique Daily

Cat Saves Newborn Chihuahua

Posted by Miss Cellania in Animal on October 10, 2009 at 11:08 am

Halo Animal Rescue in Phoenix, Arizona confronted a tiny problem. A chihuahua puppy was left an orphan when its mother died in childbirth. Rescue worker Heather Allen called Animal Control and asked if they had any nursing mothers. All they had was a black cat with four kittens.

Knowing that without a mom the baby Chihuahua did not have long to live, Heather introduced the two. She says, “I just kind of just stuck the puppy in with the rest and hoped the mom wouldn’t notice much and she thought that was fine.”

Seven days later the baby Chihuahua, now named Liam, is still alive. Heather says, “She’s doing great, I don’t know if she’ll be litter-trained when she’s done, but she’s doing really well, she’s nursing and seems to be growing and doing great.”

Snuggling with Puppy May Have Saved a Wandering Toddler

Posted by Alex in Animal, Baby & Kids on April 14, 2009 at 4:17 pm

When 2-year-old toddler Nathaniel wandered away from his home, his mother Ashley Teafatiller and fellow searchers frantically looked for him … thankfully the story has a happy ending, and an unlikely hero: Nathaniel’s puppy Stanley who kept him warm (and probably alive) during the cold night:

About 150 searchers spread out look for Nathaniel, who had managed to walk more than a mile away from his home, Lewis County Sheriff Steve Mansfield said.

By 11 p.m., a Toldeo firefighter with a portable infrared scanner spotted a heat signal that turned out to be the boy.

"They think Stanley is what kept him going because it was obviously really cold last night," said Teafatiller. Nathaniel was found laying on the cold ground with Stanley snuggled next to him. During his adventure, the boy stripped off his pants and diaper and was found in only a t-shirt and socks.

Death Metal Puppy

With a title like Death Metal Puppy, you might want to think before you watch this video, since the music is, yeah, death metal. But it made me laugh! Turn your speakers down a bit and give it a chance. Link (embedded video clip) -Thanks, Kiltak!
