12 Absolutely Insane Prom Dresses

Posted by Jill Harness in Art, Art & Design, Fashion, Living on June 28, 2011 at 10:23 pm

The duct tape prom dress scholarship contest was going on when I was in high school, but even so, none of our dresses were nearly this outrageous. This particular couple’s costume was inspired by the late, great Andy Warhol. There are plenty more insane prom outfits at the link, so be sure to check them all out.

Going to Prom in the Weinermobile

Posted by Miss Cellania in Auto & Transportation on May 1, 2011 at 4:23 am

We brought you the stories of some extraordinary prom rides a few years ago, but this takes the cake… or maybe the hot dog! Ben Ross was seriously hurt in a motorcycle accident. A joke he made while in the hospital led his mother to petition the Oscar Mayer company to take Ben and his girlfriend Molly Muchow to their prom in the Weinermobile. The company came through, and Ben and Molly were driven in the 27-foot vehicle to the L.D. Bell High School prom last night at the Dallas Trade Center. Link -via Fark

Is 19 Too Old For Prom?

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on April 14, 2011 at 5:25 pm

Chris Kluender wants to take his high school sweetheart Tiffany Gall to the prom. After all, they started dating a couple of years ago when she was a senior and the couple went to her prom.

But there’s a teensy weensy problem now, when Chris wants to take her to his prom: at 19 years old, the school says she’s too old to attend:

Tiffany currently attends St. Leo Universtiry with a major in healthcare administration. Chris also plans to attend St. Leo and is interested in sports management. They both feel their strong credentials, good grades and high morals should be enough to make an exception in this case.

As for the principal, Ray Bonti, he says rules are rules.

"If I have to make an exception for her, where does it stop? We know they are good people, but I can’t have adults at a high school dance," said Bonti. "Parents trust me to take care of their kids. I can’t have older adults there."

He went on to say, "We understand he is a great young man, and he can bring any one of the 2,100 other students to the prom."

First Prom at Age 90

Posted by Queuebot in Everything Else on May 4, 2010 at 8:31 pm

Ninety-year-old great-grandmother Hasselteen Rumba of Kansas City has something to really celebrate: she attended her first prom. Going to a dance was on her "bucket list".

Great-grandson Ron Blalock said he decided to help Rumba after learning that attending a dance was on her list.

"She never went to a prom and I figured I’m having a prom so she should come with me and enjoy herself," Blalock said.

Rumba said she wasn’t allowed to attend dances as a teenager.

"Well about 60 years ago my folks was real strict," Rumba said. "They said oh no you’re not going to a dance. I couldn’t do that."

10 Crazy Prom Stories

Posted by Miss Cellania in Everything Else on March 19, 2010 at 10:01 am

Some of these stories will cause outrage or sadness, and some will make you cringe at how important the prom is for high school students. Then there are a few stories to warm your heart, like that of 84-year-old Kenneth Smith. Smith was called up to serve in World War II and didn’t finish high school or attend the prom. The Chester High School class of 2008 invited Smith to their prom.

A friend arranged for him to receive an honorary diploma from Chester High School, just outside Philadelphia, and finally go to the prom. He did – at the Springfield Country Club. Smith said this prom wasn’t just for him. He said it was also for all the other soldiers who couldn’t make it to their own.
