This stack of pancakes is bursting into action, thanks to a plate designed by Eisuke Tachikawa. His series turns eating lunch into a manga action/adventure sequence.
Also neat: at the link, scroll down to the end to see an oven-safe ceramic bone that you can cook into bread to make it look like a slab of meat.

Artist Isabelle Foirest designed a set of four porcelain dinner plates that contain inkblots inspired by the classic Rorschach test. After you eat, you can discuss psychological analysis with your dinner guests! They are dishwasher safe, which is good, because if you hand wash them, you’d never be absolutely sure they are clean. The four plates all have different inkblots. Link -via Dangerous Minds

I love antique plates just the way they are, but these will appeal to modern sensibilities as well. Etsy seller BeatUpCreations offers old plates with new additions like side show performers, political faces, music stars, artworks, and movie characters transferred onto the porcelain. These are a great idea and are certain to get children to play with their food -of course, that may not really help get them to eat their veggies. They will be availible on April 10th and are a reasonable $10.
