Erwin Wurm’s Marshmallow Art

Posted by Nan Koenig in Art, Art & Design on July 29, 2011 at 9:31 pm

Well, these items are not actually made out of marshmallows–it just seems like it. Austrian artist Erwin Wurm has created an exhibit called “Wear Me Out” featuring items that people occupy such as sweaters, homes and odd Peep-looking… things (Peep/Human hybrids?) I’m not sure, but that may be the childhood home of the Stay-Puft marshmallow man. The installation is currently being featured on Design Boom and on display in Antwerp at the Middelheim Museum.

Arguably, there’s no such thing as too much sugar. Or at least that would be an assumption behind this delicious concoction by foodblogger Sugar Swings. Have a look at some of the inventive food crafts that she’s made with Peeps. Link -via Distracted by Star Wars

Check out a roundup of Peeps dioramas that aspire to what we call high culture: scenes of artists, art galleries, famous artworks, and literary references, and a symphony as well, in this collection of pictures from the Chicago Tribune’s competitions at mental_floss. 13 Hilarious Peeps Candy Easter Dioramas

Posted by Jill Harness in Crafts, Food & Drink, Holiday, Neatorama Exclusives on April 8, 2011 at 5:17 am

For the devout, Easter is an opportunity to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, but for many others, it’s an excuse to munch down on piles of pastel candies and chocolate bunnies. By far the most notorious of these springtime treats is the sugar-coated marshmallow masses known as Peeps. But you don’t have to love the taste of Peeps to appreciate their brilliance. The simple bunny and chick shapes open the candies up to a whole new realm of fun in the form of diorama artworks. Here are a few of the funniest and coolest we could find.

Peep Show

This classic, sexy Peep diorama is probably the most famous ever made as it has spread its way across the internet for years. The oldest version I could find comes from Flickr user Amenhotep4, but I don’t think he’s the creator of the diorama. If you know were it comes from, please let me know in the comments.

Sweety Todd: The Demon Barber of Peep Street

This diorama by Flickr user mreraser’s friends Matt and Teresa is by far one of my favorites. There is so much detail in the decorations and I can’t help but love the blood on the decapitated Peeps and the maniacal look on Sweety Todd’s face.

We Come In Peeps

This adorable diorama was created by Dan Paddock and sent in directly to BoingBoing after the site posted this bizarre and slightly scary fake magazine cover called “Rest In Peeps, Anna Nichole Smith.

Alien Peeps

Of course, not all alien travelers are peaceful as Daniel Spiess made clear in his chest-burstingly scary Peeps diorama, which was based on the movie Alien.

Make Your Own Peeps Plushies

Posted by Stacy in Crafts on March 28, 2011 at 12:10 pm

Though they look good enough to eat, these marshmallow Peeps bunny plushies are really made of fleece (and they’re considerably bigger than the real thing). Even if you don’t like to eat the real thing, these are too sweet to pass up. You’ve got plenty of time to use the tutorial so thoughtfully provided by Dandelions and Lace to whip up a few in time to put in Easter baskets. Link

How to Make Peepshi

Posted by Miss Cellania in Crafts, Food & Drink on March 6, 2011 at 9:27 am

Peepshi is a snack that looks like sushi but tastes like Peeps, because it is made from Peeps and Rice Krispies. Peepshi is actually an art project, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do it. Learn how at Serious Eats. Link -via Holy Kaw!

Pixar’s Movie Up-Inspired Peeps Diorama

Posted by Alex in Film, Food & Drink on April 2, 2010 at 3:59 pm

The winners of The Washington Post’s annual Peeps diorama show (Peeps Show IV) have just been announced. The entry "EEP" by Michael Chirlin and Veronica Ettle which recreated a scene from Pixar’s animated movie Up, beat over 1,100 other contestants to capture first place:

Chirlin works for a company that designs virtual-reality goggles, and he relied on his experience with 3-D computer modeling to create the basic structure. "I built the house using a computer first, and figured out what kind of pieces I needed to cut out of wood," he says. "Then I just bought plywood, drew the pieces on it and cut them out."

After forming the basic structure from plywood, the duo snipped popsicle sticks to create the siding, scalloped lattice and shingled roof. Ettle, a field director for the Girl Scouts, painted the house in a palette of pastels and created the balloons by covering a large foam egg with chunks of Peeps.

The diorama re-creates the moment in the film when the house takes flight, with the elderly widower Carl tucked away inside and Russell the Boy Scout clinging to the front door. "We’ve always liked Pixar movies," Chirlin says. "We saw ‘Up’ this year, and it seemed like a logical progression from ‘Wall-E’ to ‘Up.’ And we thought the balloon would look really good with Peeps on it."

Chocolate Covered Peeps

Posted by Stacy in Food & Drink on March 31, 2009 at 9:58 pm

I know most people love Peeps or hate them – no grey area. I’m one that loves them, but I like to cut a little slit in the package and let them get stale for a few days. Mmm, crunchy Peeps. For those of you that like a pure shot of sugar in the shape of a chick, here’s a way to step up the game: chocolate. Craftster user notyourstar has a good tutorial on how to do it. Seems self-explanatory, but she has a few good tips (freeze your Peeps first, otherwise they will melt when they hit the hot chocolate).

‘Course, you could always just buy them.
