Parrot Protects Premature Puppies

Posted by Miss Cellania in Animals & Pets on November 10, 2011 at 6:29 am

Suzanna Bolton of Darwen, Lancashire, England, has an African Grey parrot named Sam and a Pomeranian named Sally. Sally was due to deliver puppies in a week when she went into premature labor in the middle of the night. Sam responded by jumping into Bolton’s bed and saying “Come on, come on,” in Bolton’s voice.

“That night he seemed to know what was going on and came looking for me to help.

“He’s never been in my bedroom before in the eight years I’ve had him, but he came up the stairs, climbed on the bed and started talking to me in my own voice with the words “come on, come on”, which I often say to Sally.

“I wondered what on earth was going on and took Sam back downstairs to his perch, but then he looked at me and squawked.

“It was then I looked in the kitchen and saw the puppies. One had died and the other five boys were all very, very cold and wet. I quickly got the heat pads out for them and got them next to a radiator, and luckily they’re now doing well.

Sam is 18 years old and is able to mimic several of the family member’s voices. Link -via Arbroath

Budgie Balancing on a Ball

Yes, the budgerigar is probably trying to mount the tennis ball, but I still find the cuteness factor to be very high and the floor extremely clean. Click play or go to Link [YouTube] – via Metafilter

Parrot Talkin’ on the Phone (Ahahahaha!)

Posted by Alex in Animals & Pets, Video Clips on April 23, 2011 at 9:49 am

Ken Kulosa owns a green parrot named José, whose previous owner spent a lot of time on the phone. Turns out that when he’s alone (or thinks that he’s alone), José likes to … well, parrot, her phone conversations. So Ken snuck in and took this 1 minute cell-phone video. Check out this clip of the bird yapping and laughing away.

Lolita the parrot can sing the song “Bodies” by the metal band Drowning Pool. Here’s a selection from the lyrics:

One – Nothing wrong with me
Two – Nothing wrong with me
Three – Nothing wrong with me
Four – Nothing wrong with me

One – Something’s got to give
Two – Something’s got to give
Three – Something’s got to give
Now

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor
Let the bodies hit the floor

Parrot Arrested for Serving as Lookout for Drug Cartel

Posted by John Farrier in Animals & Pets, Living on September 23, 2010 at 9:25 am

(Video Link)

Lorenzo, a parrot, was seized by Colombian police after he was trained to serve as a lookout for drug dealers. He was taught to call out if police approached:

According to environmental authorities, Lorenzo the parrot was trying to tip-off a local drug cartel when officers conducted an undercover raid early Wednesday.

“This parrot was sending out alerts,” said police officer Hollman Oliveira. “You could say he was some sort of watch bird.”

Authorities claim Lorenzo is one of nearly 1700 parrots seized by officials after being trained by drug traffickers to act as lookouts.

Lorenzo caused quite the stir on Wednesday as he was presented to journalists. The well trained creature even showed off his look out skills as he yelled out: “run, run you are going to get caught.”

Frosty Shaking Its Tail Feather

Posted by Alex in Animals & Pets on May 4, 2009 at 2:54 am

So – I posted Snowball the parrot, the subject of a very scientific experiment to see if birds can dance. But Snowball might well just have two left claws when compared to a bird named Frosty.

Here’s a clip of Frosty the parrot shaking its tail feather to Ray Charles and the Blues Brothers’ Twist It (Shake Your Tail Feather): Link [embedded YouTube clip, video by Karla K. Larsson)
