The Islington Council made a sign warning people not to attach anything to park furniture or trees -and then attached it to a tree at Highbury Fields in north London, England. A neighboring architect, who was annoyed at the many signs posted recently, went to remove the sign and was surprised to see who had posted it on the tree. Soon, others gathered around to laugh at the nonsensical notice. The council soon relocated the notice to a nearby message board. They blamed the mistake on a junior member with good intentions. Sculptors often express themselves in strange and mysterious ways, but most sculptors don’t have their works on display in a public park.
Frogner Park in Oslo, Norway has chosen an odd assortment of statues to fill their park, 23 works that center around nude forms in weird poses doing who knows what to each other (nothing pornographic, I assure you) and often looking quite happy doing whatever it is they’re doing.
BuzzFeed has a gallery showing off these enormous oddities, take a gander and i’m sure you’ll be asking yourself the same thing I did- “Wait, what’s going on here?”
An unauthorized theme park based on the mobile game Angry Birds has opened at Window of the World Park in Changsha, China. Participants can use a real giant slingshot to knock pigs off a structure, as seen in a video clip.
Fortunately, the birds and the pigs are not as real as the intellectual property case that the game’s owners have against the park, which CNNGo reports opened on September 1 in Hunan province as part of a month-long stress reduction festival.
“This [Angry Birds park] serves as a method for people to purge themselves and to gain happiness,” a park official told Chinese gaming website Gamersky.com.
Rovio, the company that produces the game, may license the rights to an Angry Birds themed park in the future, but no deal was made with the people who opened the Chinese attraction. Link

Drivers looking for parking space are going to be dismayed, but the many San Francisco residents are enjoying this clever idea, a tiny "parkmobile" made from modified dumpsters:
The two bright-red dumpsters, 16 feet long by nearly 6 feet wide and filled with greenery, have been placed in a busy downtown neighborhood where they throw a little shade, elicit regular double-takes and fill curbside spots that otherwise would go to cars.
The grandly named "parkmobiles" were rolled out earlier this summer, the first in a fleet of itinerant oases in one of America's densest cities.
"The more crowded a city is, the more new ideas come squeezing out of the ferment in a combination of need and opportunity," said Peter Harnik, director of the Center for City Park Excellence at the Trust for Public Land. "New York and San Francisco are two of the most innovative places."
Not everyone's into the it, though:
When parking spots began turning into parkland, retailers and drivers groused: "So where do we put the cars?" Those who advocate for more green space in the city worried that the miniatures would replace traditional parks. Even former Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr. got into the fray, deriding in a recent newspaper column the "overgrown flower boxes" that he said were a magnet for the homeless.
"The first one I came across had obviously been used as a bathroom," Hizzoner carped. "The second one I visited, a guy and gal were 'socializing' in the bushes."

Pride of the Valley Sculpture Park is an outdoor gallery just outside the small village of Churt, Surrey, England. There are around 150 sculptures at any time, and many are for sale. See lots more pictures at Kuriositas. Be warned, some sculptures are nudes. Link

In as odd phenomenon at Yosemite Falls, the mist generated from the waterfall forms ice in the upper, cooler atmosphere at night and falls with the water making a slushy mixture called frazil ice. This slush causes some dynamic changes in Yosemite creek mimiking lava flows in that it flows, blocks up, and then spreads around. Nature is such a beautiful and mysterious thing.

Lenore Skenazy, a mom and the author of Free-Range Kids has declared May 22nd – the weekend before Memorial Day – as the very first “Take Our Children to the Park… And Leave Them There Day.”
It is all part of Skenazy’s crusade to bring back common sense parenting to what are some very overprotective times. Her basic philosophy is that kids need to get out in the world, and that even though there might be some risk involved, the risk is small and well worth taking.
Most of us used to play outside in the park, without our parents, without cell phones, without Purell or bottled water and we survived! Thrived! We cherish the memories! And if you believe the million studies that I’m always publishing here, kids are healthier, happier and better-adjusted if they get to spend some time each day in “free play,” without adults hovering.

Behold the natural beauty of Plitvice National Park. Called the Most Popular Tourist Attraction in Croatia, it spans 300 square kilometers, is made up of sixteen lakes, and accommodates waterfalls and wildlife galore. It’s also served as a war front.
in March 1991 it became the scene of the Plitvice Lakes incident – the first armed confrontation of the Croatian War of Independence that resulted in fatalities. The park was held by forces of the Republic of Serbian Krajina during the conflict and suffered some damage in the process, with hotels and other facilities being used as barracks.
Head over to Twisted Sifter and learn more about this awesome park.
