These mosaic portraits of geek gods, such as Bill Gates and the creator of Space Invaders Tomohiro Nishikado, are cleverly constructed by Charis Tsevis using thousands of tiny images that directly relate to each subject’s claim to fame.
In other words, Nishikado’s portrait is made up of little Space Invaders, Gates’ portrait is made up of Windows related iconography, and so on. They’re really cool looking, and I think they would make awesome desktop backgrounds!

Mosaic artist Katy Galbraith made this wonderful shower stall of hand-cut tiles with some broken ceramics. There are tile books perched on the sink as well! It turns out, you can enjoy this bathroom yourself, as it is part of a rental accommodation called the Galvelmore House Garden Flat in Crieff, Perthshire, Scotland. An artful spot for a private getaway! Link -via TYWKIWDBI

I’m sure many people have wished that their mother-in-law was toast. Laura Hadland turned a photo of her mother-in-law, Sandra Whitfield, into the world’s largest toast mosaic – comprising 9,852 slices.
The toast mosaic – 128 square metres of browned and scorched bread – was officially named the world’s largest at 5pm on October 17 at Warrington’s Parr Hall by Guinness World Records adjudicator Claire Burgess. The previous record holder measured 121.93 square metres and was created by staff and students at a school in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in February.

Two artists have been playing pretty games with the UK Royal Mail’s automated sorting offices. It seems the machines simply read the colour of stamps to check whether the correct postage has been used, so it doesn’t matter what shape they are. Kim Rugg and John Spurgeon each use proper stamps, only they are cut into tiny pieces to create the art on the envelopes. As long as it’s cancelled, it counts! Rugg creates tentacled monsters (pictured), fireworks and beach scenes, while Spurgeon has a collection of vintage postcards sent with confetti postage called ShakesMyMail.

Ukrainian artist Oksana Mas created an enormous mosaic of the Virgin Mary composed of 15,000 wooden Easter eggs at the Santa Sophia cathedral in Kiev. The work was unveiled yesterday.
Elaborate Easter eggs — “pysanky” — are a major artistic tradition in the Ukraine. Gallery at the link.

Take 3,074 paint chips in 36 colours, a few glue guns and a bit of elbow grease. And what do you get? A cool mural, that’s what. Oh, and glue all over your clothes.

Artist Saimir Strati creates enormous mosaics out of nails, corks, and toothpicks. Here is a picture of him at work on his 2006 portrait of Leonardo da Vinci. It’s made entirely out of nails. You can see a full gallery of high-resolution photographs of his work at the link.
