There is a light bulb at the fire station in Livermore, California that has been burning for 110 years. It has only been turned off for short periods, but unlike every other incandescent bulb, the filament has not burned out. The bulb burned at 60 watts when it was first used in 1901, and now is a 4-watt night light. Today, this light bulb is available to everyone on a round-the-clock webcam that updates with a new photo every 30 seconds (although it’s kind of hard to tell). Link -via a comment at reddit

There's ballet ... then there's light bulb ballet. Take a look at this beautifully choreographed Dance of the Light Bulbs by Eleazar Fanjul (it starts slow, but give it time ...)
Try doing that on those curly CFLs, Eco-Nazis! ;)

I don’t usually agree with Tea Partyers, but they’ve got my support on this issue: House Republicans are bringing up legislation to save the incandescent light bulb, which is slated to be phased out by 2020.
The law has been dubbed "the light bulb ban" by activists on the right and has struck a Tea Party nerve. Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Michele Bachmann have all called it government intrusion par excellence. It essentially mandates that no new bulbs can go on the market after January ’12 without meeting a new, higher standard of energy efficiency. Bulbs that don’t meet the standard but that are already in stores won’t be taken off shelves.
"It is one of those issues out there that just inflames people," Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, co-sponsor of the bill that would reverse the phaseout, told Politico. "What in the world were you doing restricting the kinds of light bulbs in my home?"

The tungsten filament of a common incandescent light bulb is way more interesting than you thought. Bill Hammock, “The Engineer Guy,” explains how it is made and how it works -or sometimes doesn’t. -Thanks, Bill!

I’m sad that the days of the incandescent light bulb are numbered. Nothing could match the warmth of the light of the good ol’ light bulb … until now: the Bulb Candle by Helbert Ferreira and Remi Melander of SystemDesignStudio in Barcelona, Spain.
These men are beating each other senseless using fluorescent tube light bulbs as weapons. This is apparently a sport in Japan. I can’t find much information about it online, so I take it that it is not a widely popular sport. One blogger said “It’s like WWF meets WTF.” — which seems like a good summation.
