Bullock Rescued from Ladder

Posted by Miss Cellania in Animals & Pets on August 17, 2011 at 9:10 am

A young bull was spotted in South Ayrshire, Scotland in a delicate situation. His head was wedged into a ladder. Passers-by called the SPCA to report the problem. The farmer who owns the animal was contacted and said he had no idea how that happened. It wasn’t even his ladder!

Scottish SPCA Inspector Kerry Kirkpatrick contacted the farmer after being alerted to the cow’s plight.

He said: “When the job came through my first thought was, this is a wind up, but I arrived at the field to find the cow looking confused but surprisingly calm despite having his head wedged tightly in between the rungs of the ladder.

“The farmer’s family rounded up the whole herd into a holding pen and we managed to gently pull the ladder off the cow’s head.

Bubba, the Ladder-Climbing Roof Dog

Posted by Alex in Animals & Pets on January 4, 2011 at 12:19 am

Bubba loves to be with his owner at work so much that he didn’t let a little thing called height keep them apart. Not when he taught itself to climb up a ladder!

Bubba is not unique in that he enjoys doing the unusual and he loves going to work with his owner, Levi Baker. Only problem is that Levi Baker is a roofing contractor. Bubba learned how to climb a ladder to be with her beloved Levi.

Bubba’s owner stated "One day we just tearing off a roof…next thing we know, we hear the dog at the edge of the roof scattering around. From that day on, it’s been a roof dog since."

San Francisco Fire Department’s Ladder Shop

Posted by Alex in Video Clips on September 29, 2010 at 8:22 pm

There’s something that the San Francisco Fire Department has that no other fire departments in the United States has: wooden ladders. Why use wood? Well, San Francisco has a lot of overhead powerlines, and wood doesn’t conduct electricity.

In this Vimeo clip, Adam Kaplan of ASK Media Productions tours the SFFD Wood Shop and reveals nifty nuggets of information, like how the first ladder built for the fire department was made in 1918 (still in use today) and that the Douglas Fir used has to be "aged" for 15 years in the shop.

Dog Likes to Hang Out on Roofs

Posted by Miss Cellania in Animals & Pets on January 31, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Hayley is a Golden Retriever who lives in Mankato, Minnesota. Her master is Max DeMars of DeMars Construction. Hayley likes to be with Max and his crew, so much that she will climb a ladder to join them on upper floors and roofs under construction!

Since she was a pup, Hayley, now 10 years old, follows the crew wherever they go.

“One day we were up on the roof and there she was,” explained DeMars. “Saying what about me.”

After hundreds of jobs over the years, she’s got a pretty good handle on climbing up the ladder, even when nobody else is up on the roof.

Hayley’s fame has spread since a neighbor called police about a dog on a roof. Link -via Arbroath
